In 1967, Maestro Paul Freemanβs chance meeting with Dr. King inspired a vision: an orchestra where Black and Brown musicians felt truly welcome. That vision became the Chicago Sinfonietta in 1987, redefining classical music with diversity at its core.
Orchestra NEXT is committed to supporting everyone. We spoke this week with our DEIAB coordinator Lydia Van Dreel to talk about why diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging is important to our organization as well as the bigger impact it has on music.
