Church thrifts in fancy neighbourhoods are always a good bet.
Also, lots of churches do spring and/or autumn bazaars. At the last one I went to back in November I got a huge, beautiful robin's-egg blue cashmere scarf, in perfect condition, for $4 (Canadian!).
They also tend to have butter tarts.
