Budget on-ear: look at Koss brand (eg PortaPro). Not *super* comfortable but very good value.
Over-ear: Samson SR850 has great sound, but didn’t work for my big ears, actually very uncomfortable. Phillips SHP9500 and Superlux HD681 are oft recommended comparables, but I haven’t tried either.
Questions:
-how do you feel about in-ear monitors? (The kind that form a tight seal)
-would sound leakage be a problem? Open back headphones are generally better sounding, and also less sweaty, the only catch is they leak sound.
I’d give a 99% probability their lawyers advised them against it. Personality rights are a thing, you can’t just sell products with the names of famous people without their consent (in addition to all the ways it’s morally offensive)

It's weird to me that the neuroscientists aren't (afaik) more vocally rejecting the equivalence. Is it because the comp sci side of the equation is *their* blind spot? Or do they just not realize the importance of their expertise as something people need right now?

I think it's a weight-bearing pillar of AI hype that human intelligence is merely a "neural net" with connections strengthened through exposure.
This is how you can have the people *building* the models, who know better than anyone how the sausage is made, convincing themselves they've created life (some are bullshitting, but many are true believers). Their blind spot is on the other side of the equation -- they don't know what life is!
I think there's a void in current AI/LLM commentary being exploited the booster bros: neuroscience.
There is plenty of commentary from the comp sci crowd exposing the secrets of genAI magic tricks, but the bubble withstands the pin prick, because people go "that's also how the brain works!"

VCs are smarter than us, they know that the *real* income is the friends you make along the way.
It's hard for me to get into the head of people who invest in cash-furnace tech companies (a large segment, stratified by fire intensity), but I imagine they're angling for the IPO, i.e., the bag dump onto retail. Historically that has only required "growth" (which bsky has!) not profit.
