Crazy that they couldn’t before…

Curious what happens to the senate seat when Sen. Mullin (R-OK) becomes DHS secretary?

The governor (currently Kevin Stitt) will appoint a temporary replacement to the seat.

As it is after March 1, there will not be a special election. The election will take place at the next statewide election.

The title of the article is missing a key word…”new”

The text of the post states it correctly: “moratorium on new detention facilities…”

There are no active ICE detention centers in unincorporated king county but it is still a very different meaning to ban something vs ban any new somethings.

To be clear, I think the main issue is lack of supply (e.g. exclusionary zoning, burdensome design review)

But 100 single-family homes is a pretty low bar… why exclude townhomes? why set the number so high?

Admittedly, it is a start…

Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didn’t drop the rod. WTF

Ridiculous…it didn’t even get a hearing.

In my opinion, anything that passes one chamber with such overwhelming support should be required to get a vote in the other chamber

Has an amendment been proposed so we can explicitly mention it?

Exciting…Tap to Pay will be live for ORCA systemwide on Monday 2/23!

(And is available on some routes now)

I didn’t see this until now. Sad :(

And that claim is complete verifiable BS…

The % change in the consumer price index for the Seattle area was 3.1% in December 2025

And hasn’t been even near 7% in two and a half years!

Yes! I can vouch that the separation between pedestrians and bicycles on the west portion is great and would love for it to be extended to the east side

And that’s the end of our almost record breaking dry streak…

Minimum 15-day total precipitation for KSEA. The period ending 1-30-1963 is number 1 with trace precip.

Minimum 15-day total precipitation for KSEA. The period ending 1-30-1963 is number 1 with trace precip.

If this lasts though tomorrow (which is less clear), it will be 15 days since any precip and I believe this would tie for the longest period with days in January.

January 1963 was also remarkably dry but I will note that includes days with trace precipitation

Table of daily weather for Jan 2026. No precip from Jan 13 to Jan 26 is recorded. With it being Jan 26, that value is missing still.

If it stays dry today (as it looks like it will), that will be TWO WEEKS with no recorded precip at SeaTac.

If I am correct, this has only happened ONE TIME before with days in January since records began at KSEA.

I’m a big fan of curb bulbs! They improve sightlines and reduce pedestrian crossing distances…

I am curious why they often flare out so gradually (see left drawing vs right). People often try to park in that area, stick out into traffic and make it even harder for cars/pedestrians to see each other

Save NCAR from being dismantled today! The Trump Administration has vowed to dissolve the center that provides critical extreme weather and climate data for our nation.

The Trump Administration's plan to dismantle the @ncar-ucar.bsky.social is senseless & dangerous.

It would weaken weather forecasting, climate research, & the science that keeps people safe.

We urge that this plan be abandoned.

Call Congress to #SaveNCAR today. buff.ly/7ka1BQA

Well, we’ve been without power for a bit over half an hour now…

Not too many power outages in the Seattle area for now with the vast majority concentrated in northeast Seattle (~12,000 customers)

Great summary of the event from Joe as per usual.

Much of the mountains receiving rain (instead of snow) has led to the extreme streamflows on the mountain-fed Snoqualmie, Snohomish, and Skagit rivers.

See the unofficial record temperatures over the Western US yesterday (from coolwx.com/record)

That’s a striking message…

“Flash Flooding caused by a POTENTIAL DIKE OR LEVEE FAILURE IS POSSIBLE for the levees and dikes of the Skagit River below Sedro-Wooley to the mouth of the Skagit River.”

Federal Way Downtown:

Besides the fact that this station is confusingly named as a “downtown” station, it probably has the best land use. Pulling the station away from I-5 means the land around the station can a destination and not just a pass through.

Star Lake Station:

Possibly the worst siting (see above post). Much of the area nearby is wetlands

Kent Des Moines Station:

Near Highline College but surrounded by highways

(Highline College actually advocated for the station to be on the west side of SR99 but ultimately lost)

Happy these stations are opening, but putting these stations next to I-5 was an own goal and extremely short sighted. Below is a look at the land use of the stations

I spent much of my childhood in London and the city has many transportation wins (Congestion Charge Zone, world class rapid transit, many pedestrianized streets), but the lack of pedestrian priority broadly annoys me.

02.12.2025 18:49 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

The pedestrian islands are nice but the highway code says there is no automatic priority at such “uncontrolled points”

This is WILD! Particularly in comparison to the pedestrian priority at ALL intersections in Seattle.

Street in London with a pedestrian island for crossing.

Street in London with a pedestrian island for crossing.

It’s crazy to me that in the UK cars don’t have to (and don’t) stop for pedestrians unless there is a zebra crossing.

Like not even at crossings with pedestrian islands…

U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items “potentially divisive.”

It is hard to be surprised these days but here we are...this is so obviously an embracement of white supremacy…

Exciting to see a 2 line train in Seattle.

Just the 4-6 min peak frequency for downtown to North Seattle is gonna be a game changer!

Spring 2026 cannot come soon enough.

Add this to the evidence that a tax on very high incomes works (in this case income over $1 million dollars)
