Also like ....I know I shouldn't say this as an author lol but I genuinely don't understand the point of hardbacks? I don't think I've ever bought a single one full-price!

At work we've just done a vid with a chap who got low GCSE grades, couldn't even do an apprenticeship as a result. Finally managed to get on one through access course. Then did an engineering degree while working, sponsored by employer. Now manages 100+ nuclear engineers and a Β£1bn portfolio??!!!

It really hit home how insane housing has become when I realised I am too poor - at 39, on a not that good but much-above-average salary for the area - to ever buy a two bed bungalow in... J A Y W I C K.

I don't know much about the wrestler referenced, William Blair, but I believe that going down in history "as the greatest buttocker within living memory" is a beautiful thing πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Find out more about Jack in my book - out next year - called THE DEVILS' DANCE FLOOR. Find out more about The Cross-Buttocker in the book I will one day write and publish and title THE CROSS-BUTTOCKER whether my agent and/or any editor on the planet thinks it's a good idea or not πŸ’ͺ🏻

Clip from Jan 1907 Mirror of Life newspaper. It reads:

Jack Wannop as a Boxer and Wrestler. BY THE CROSSBUTTOCKER Jack Wannop, of New Cross, holds a unique position among athletes, as he is the only heavyweight in England whoever combined the sister sciences in a superlative degree. He took first honours as a middleweight in most of the wrestling rings of Cumberland, Westmorland, Northumberland and Durham, in the seventies, and while still under 11 stone he threw William Blair, of Solport Mill, in 1878, at Bridge of Allen, the same year that Blair threw George Steadman in the final falls at Lillie Bridge, Blair was the greatest buttocker within living memory, and when applying the buttock with a head hold, he made some magnificent falls, and nearly always threw his opponent dean over his head.

screengrab from an article I wrote years ago for Who Do You Think You Are magazine - it shows Jack in a sketched portrait, in smart outfit and with bushy moustache, approx 1901, and a black and white pic of Jack wrestling his pupil Tom Thompson, taken from Crossbuttocker's 1901 book. Jack's got prominent biceps through a white undershirt.

It's British Science Week #BSW26! In 1907 Jack Wannop (1854-1923) of New Cross, Ldn, was described by top wrestling writer THE CROSS-BUTTOCKER as The Finest Exponent of the Sister Sciences (wrestling and boxing). Jack was "the only heavyweight in England" to combine them "in a superlative degree" πŸ₯ŠπŸ€Όβ€β™‚️

Hah! I've got one vague memory of being the Artful Dodger at school with my pal as Oliver, and we went ALL OUT and were beaten to a prize by two kids with stick-on beards with cornflakes in?! Twits. Pff. Can't be doing with it. I just know all his little pals will be Spiderman anyway.

He's wearing tracksuit bottoms and knitwear with a stain on it, and has a packet of mini cheddars, so we can probably just call it 'writer costume'. I'm so good at this.

Thank you Louisa Mellor + @denofgeek.bsky.social! 🫢🏻πŸ₯Š

The piece was from last year, just don't remember reading it at the time. So many of the [always male] writers who did #AThousandBlows true history pieces took research information from my website without crediting. This has made me very happy!

It hadn't even occurred to me that pumping might have a negative effect (I did a mixture of straight on the boob and pumping over the first 12 weeks) but now you've both mentioned it... Yeah. That might have been it!

Ooh that's interesting! πŸ€”

There is so much pressure around breast feeding and while I was a little upset at having to stop before I wanted to - I refuse to feel guilty about it. We can't do ALL the things, we can just do the best we can, and it is good enough! πŸ’ͺ🏻

I was exactly the same! One boob never turned on at all, the other gave up after 12 weeks. Did combi from 2 weeks and entirely formula from 12. He's a head taller than average, healthy, entirely off his rocker but seems generally ok (good at impersonating mid-century US cartoon characters) πŸ˜‚
