"Yet once you've come to be part of this particular patch, you'll never love another. Like loving a woman with a broken nose, you may well find lovelier lovelies. But never a lovely so real."

@tenebrouspress.bsky.social Didn't forget you! You're in the horror section! And we've carried you longer.

As the year ends we've increased the footprint of indie presses from around the country. As times change it's important to support these smaller publishers who are putting out fascinating books. It's not surprising that so many indie pubs are putting out award winners. #smallpress #indiepublishers
We have made the difficult decision NOT to donate to Trump's White House ballroom. Unlike PiranhaCo, we have morals. I wonder how much money made selling books in the time it took to write this post. Shop local. It's always worth it.

We held a bookmark contest, and these were the four winners. I had them printed locally. They came out wonderful with the store information on the back and credit to the artists. They also won Bookie’s gift cards!

Thanks Trump. The school at which we are CURRENTLY running a book fair just lost the Title I funding to put books into the hands of kids literally in the middle of the book fair. The school lost money. The store lost money. But hey. Rich people got richer.

And the struggle is still real. This article came out when we had the sign explaining how many books we needed to sell each month to stay open. We hit that number for two months before it went away. Since then the rent has increased twice (we were definitely due), but it still hurts.
It’s very true and not much has changed, but this article must have come up in people’s memories, as it is a year old. Thank you for the support!
And second and third and fourth in all the possible ways.
A photo of Tuskegee airman John (Jack) Lyle. He is sitting in a plane with three visible swastikas on it, most likely showing that he shot down at least three German airplanes during World War II. He is wearing full aviator gear, looking at the camera and holding onto the top of the plane with an open cockpit. This photo is inscribed To Bookie’s on top and the signature of John Lyle on the bottom.
This is the late Tuskegee Airman John (Jack) Lyle, a friend to the store for many years. He was a humble man who resisted the term “hero” and loved sailing, which he did into his late 90s. He signed books at one of our most successful events. He won’t be erased. #tuskegeeairmen #dei #blackhistory
With these racists deleting everything about black people from history, I suppose we’ll have to duodecuple down and declare every month as black history month. These people have lost their minds. We will always carry books by and about people of color. Diversity to the end, whenever that will be.
A graphic that says “ bring the kids to read to dogs from 12 to 1 PM today! Meet sit stay read at Bookie’s bookstore. 12:48 PM Saturday, March 8 and Saturday April 5.” it goes on to say “ come join us at Bookie’s bookstore! Children and their guardians will spend an afternoon reading to our certified dog team and learn more about sit. Stay read.” then it gives the address of 10324 South Western Ave in Chicago. And then there are The Bookie’s and sit stay read logos.
One of our favorite events to host! Kids can come to the store and read to the puppies from SitStayRead. So cute.

So sweet. Made our cold day warmer.
We had someone try to trade in a copy of “Voodoo Windows for Windows 3.0 and 3.1” a few years ago. Funny now, but people get upset when we don’t want something like that.
