Should You Snitch On Your Neighbourhood Bear? | The Tyee
Some British Columbians worry that reporting will lead to their deaths.
Moving to Revelstoke, I noticed how calling the RAPP line about bears stirs debate.
Input from local govs & non-profits in BC shows that the message on when & how to report urban bears varies, as some communities work to manage bears themselves.

Why cutting climate journalism is a risk we canโt afford
A recent wave of lay-offs will reduceย public understanding of how climate change impacts lives and weaken the media's ability to hold power to account, enabling climate misinformation to spread
Loved this line by Felix Horne:
โWithout expertise and experience, wildfires are reported without the underlying climate context that fuels them. Energy stories lose their climate dimension. Pollution is treated as an unfortunate accident rather than a foreseeable harm from fossil fuel dependence.โ

The polar vortex that hit the U.S. & claimed 60 lives is reminiscent, for me, of the 2021 heat dome that killed 600 British Colombians.
Polar opposites on the weather spectrum, but both telling examples of how even North American society is unprepared for climate change-driven temperature extremes.

A letter from Jimmy Thomson on impact

It has been so gratifying to work with the incredible staff at @nationalobserver.com as EIC this year. I published this letter to our readers and supporters to document some of the impact we had this year and plans for 2026.
