Had nightmares so I'm up.

For this week I've been working towards getting basic character designs in game and combat working.

Didn't finish in time to have something worth showing but I'm still trying.

Yeah social media is horrifying.

Every time I post something I go like:

"Oh shit im writing an email to 1k people aaaaaaaa"

and the only way I can be okay is to just pretend that reality isn't real. It's the same thing with HFTGOOM being read by a scary high amount of people.

I haven't been able to figure it out.

I don't really have any good answers but im curious to see how your game will do since I can't tell what works anymore.

I'm also curious how you're going to approach an rpg since your stuff leans vns. Anyways im going to run away again for another week.

I'm weird in that I also enjoy seeing how other games are seen and how they do.

There are devs like alienmelon who I think are the greatest living game developers and then they get super limited reviews on steam.

Then I see stuff I think that sucks and it ends up beloved on steam.

I think part of my interest as a dev is you are more aloof but I kinda care about my players and view them as a mirror. I make something and get silence or see it shatter into thousands of interpretations.

My greatest fear is silence from players.

You seem independent of that.

You're omnipresent in the scene but the scene is also a super small town.

Queer devs and gamedevs live in a teacup and once you reach the borders of that world it feels really small.

Your pace of output is really high and it makes sense that people have heard of you.

So I kind of want to see what form your black lodge will take.

Plus as a dev I think it's a great growing experience to get really mean reviews at least a little. Its like a rite of passage.

I'm really curious to see how your stuff is gonna play out on steam vs itch.

Steam can be a lot more toxic but the form of that toxicity or not can be really different from dev to dev.

It's communities kinda remind me weirdly of like the black lodge from twin peaks.

Yeah, I've got a limited time to get a store page up.

Steam store reviews are demanding gods.

So I'm kinda making the demo while finalizing art and it's a little rough. Especially since I know the game is flawed but like no matter what I'm gonna try to release a new game.

Steam requires 5 screenshots.

When I was making previous games like HFTGOOM the alpha version characters looked utterly different from the final ones.

The issue with a steam page is people might get hyped for a character and then be like "wha who is this?" so I'm kinda forced to make choices

Yeah color is weird and complicated.

I've been struggling after leaving gameboy world since before I got 4 colors on a good day.

1 was my original intention but as I put her through worlds I would lose track of her as the player.

2 is Chun-li's colors from street fighter since I wanted to mimic

Yeah, originally the protag was going to be black and white or purple but then once it translated into actual mechanics it just didn't work that well.

I really hate steams "We demand 5 screenshots but no fake shots" since its forcing me to make a lot of design choices earlier instead of organically

The game is kinda a trainwreck at this point.

The narrative tone is just a hot mess.

I'm hoping to compensate with art and gameplay mechanics.

The worlds are going to use a lot of blacks so im kinda nervous about visibility - hence the dayglo preference.

Yeah, engines are hard.

I still like twine better than renpy but that might be because my brain is broken in weird ways.
