Here we go again. The well-respected German daily "Süddeutsche Zeitung" has published yet another intellectually unsound and mean-spirited essay by Jürgen Habermas on Ukraine. I understand why some experts feel the impulse to write a point-by-point rebuttal—but I think it's a bad idea. Here's why:

When my parents caught me listening to RadioFreeEurope, they rushed to shut the windows, so no one will hear it & report us. Now Trump/Musk are shutting down RFE, a source of truthful info for Belarus, Russia, Iran etc. Who really are the "crazy people"?

Very heartening to see masses of youth engaged in pro-democracy protests, in Serbia, Hungary, Romania, Tbilisi, USA and so many other places. Authoritarianism works through trying to instill isolation and fear. Solidarity and critical resistance are powerful antidotes, and they are contagious.
The @ecpr.bsky.social Gender Study 2024 just came in. I am shocked by the numbers. Especially dramatic is the percentage of women authors published in ECPR-journals: 26% in 2024, compared to 35% in 2023. Please, don't try to fix the women, fix the @##$! system.
