βMeta has stolen booksβ: authors to protest in London against AI trained using βshadow libraryβ
I'm so talked out. And that's just one day. Braver souls than me who run the full three day marathon of #LBF have my full respect!!!
Did you need to buy a Trump Gold Card to get in? π€£π€£
...and emotions and messiness and imagination and life experiences and personality and chaos and ups and downs and jumbled planning and best intentions gone to pot and anger and sadness and joy - I'd rather they write me the books please.
- the mentality of wanting something for not much effort...which would be what an AI created novel would be - or, maybe even to prove that an AI can do creativity as well as a human? It all feels a bit icky. So call me super old fashioned - but I'd rather a human, with all their faults and flaws..
...could all come up with a 'perfect' formula. Readable and commercial. But that's not the point. Aside from the fact, at some stage, that AI programme will have been mining real authors' work to teach it how to write...
It may be old-fashioned of me, my feeling is that a calculated, algorithm-led piece of work by a computer - considering the months of effort put in by a human writer should not be compared. It may well be that the AI writes a good book - after all algorithms, data, number crunching...
Just been approached asking if I would take on a wholly AI written fiction novel and I'm genuinely shocked.
Was super impressed the person was honest about it being AI-created. And seemed like a very honest and genuine query...but...
And this is why I now carry a pocket full of bird seed with me when I go into the garden. I've made a friend...
And yes, I'm aware I have made up several words...ππ€£ But, seriously, if you like the sound of Bridgerton meets Enola Holmes, meets Knives Out - then think you're going to love this one.
If you get in quickly - the fabulous new novel from Rebecca Ide has 25% off with a pre-order from @waterstones.bsky.social. If you like your fantasy murderousy, gothic historical, romantical and with a fair bit of snark and spice - sometimes at the same time - then this is one for you!!
And soooo many sexy, sexy scenes...ππ₯°
Just in case you missed the announcement at the weekend - here's a little bit more about the fabulous debut fantasy by @Awakedreamer, DREAM OF THE JET-BLACK CITY acquired by @kellyyrosee15 for @bonnierbooks_uk's Zaffre imprint. bit.ly/4hNlagz Scott Lynch meets China MiΓ©ville anyone? π
Oh you know the one...ππ
She's gorgeous!!

is one of Amazon's Best Books of February - it's the season of the Mermaid people!! amazon.com/b/?_encoding...
Seen the most STUNNING book cover and artwork but can't say any more than that at the moment...but SO EXCITED!!
Though I suppose if we renamed it FURRY OF THE GODS - it MIGHT fit into the romantasy area? π«£π€£
With all the Rebecca Yarros excitement - there are recs out for dragon books. @johngwynneauthor.bsky.social's FURY OF THE GODS is one. Be warned though. There's no sexy, sexy in this. There is plenty of ACTION and great characters! ππ bit.ly/40puaAY
T decided there wasn't enough of a challenge for Orka with just the dragon. So added in some dark elves and a dragon-headed Knight as well. I drew the line at his firemen coming to 'help out'...
Had a fun and, hopefully, helpful, conversation with the #BrothersGwynne and John Gwynne - about publishing, the working relationship between author and editor - and maybe some apologies for certain characters I may have done wrong by!! π«£π www.youtube.com/watch?si=mbx...
Yes, I have added Lik-Rifa into my Viking village. Thankfully, Orka is on hand...along with some of the Bloodsworn!!! See, you can have all sorts of fun with the characters from @johngwynneauthor.bsky.social's books!!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
I started reading THE GENTLEMAN AND HIS VOWSMITH by Rebecca Ide (aka @devinmadson.bsky.social ) and I am HOOKED. Murder, banter, creepy spooky stuff, fantastic characters!!! Half queer romance, half gothic ghost story, half locked room murder mystery (yes I know that's 3 halves, shhh), all excellent
