What to know about Republican nominee Brandon Herrera's bid for Congress A firearms influencer with millions of subscribers is suddenly on track to represent San Antonio in Congress after a scandal upended the race.

They call him an activist.

Of what though?

Maine’s gonna do Maine though and we prob will wind up with this guy.

He’ll be a privileged douchebag with a racist backstory, LARPing as Daniel Boone.

And really I wouldn’t care if he actually were part of the working class as we know it today, he’s a guy who had a Nazi tattoo that still reposts Nazi content.

He can grow a beard, make artisanal beer and drive a truck, he won’t be Bob struggling as a janitor to feed his family.

There’s a very wide birth between works as an oyster farmer and owns an oyster farm.

Just because you chop your own wood for your cabin doesn’t make you working class, gruffy Maine blue collar American. Not when most of the actual working class only dream of having a cabin to chop wood for.

I have Ryan Grim blocked everywhere he exists but fwiw:

yes class is weird in Maine.

But it doesn't matter because idk why we're discussing the precise class status of the nazi tattoo guy.

There is not actually a class where that becomes less of a problem.

Prep school kids are not working class.

I would’ve had a hard time believing Noem if she’d claimed the killings were an accident and that no one should be shot that isn’t a clear and present threat.

But Noem didn’t even do that. The brutality was no accident. And wasn’t incompetence for that reason.

Do not erase her hand in it.

They’ll write it off as failure of department head instead she did this on purpose because she in fact did.

06.03.2026 20:56 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Those killings weren’t a failure on her part. They were the goal.

06.03.2026 20:55 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Saying she was just incompetent erases her willful cruelty as an accident.

06.03.2026 20:52 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

She was a competent terrorist. A competent criminal. A competent racist. A competent grifter. A competent ethnic cleanser.

Not an incompetent one.

I have been writing and talking about the incompetence/malevolence scale of bad governance for a long time. And, while there is definitely incompetence within DHS, I think it lets Noem off way too easy to suggest that, as to her, incompetence dominated her tenureβ€”let alone as the standalone factor.

06.03.2026 20:49 πŸ‘ 185 πŸ” 21 πŸ’¬ 8 πŸ“Œ 2

Yeah it’s not incompetence if it’s intentional brutality.

Noem wasn’t accidentally a terrorist murderer.

My point, to be clear, is that this is a version of sanewashing.

It's not quite that, but it's blame-shifting: Blaming incompetence, where we have abundant evidence that many, if not most, of the reasons she will be remembered were either intentional or known inevitabilities.

I don’t think the incompetence actually is going to be what Kristi Noem is remembered for.

It will be the killings, the lawlessness, and the grift, if I had to guess.

Not always a pardoned J6er that commits every crime, but somehow always a pardoned J6er committing more crimes.

And they’re usually super creepy crimes.
