Betting on the wrong games. Big studio purchases with little return. Price hikes when your best selling model was the cheap one. GP price hikes with no new benefits.
And we still don't know where they want to steer the ship towards. They just copying what others are doing but worse.
For a time it seemed that the way was clear. XSS was their best selling console and GP for a time was a success. Being a cheap way of gaming at the cost of being tied to a service seemed like it was working.
Then they started flopping.
I have a gaming PC, I just wanted a box to play things while on the couch. GP has FIFA for when the bros come over and I got to play Lies of P and E33. Don't care about 4K, my TV isn't even that good.
The obvious downside is the downgrade on some games but it runs games and that's enough.
"what's the point of a Series S". It's price.
I live in a 3rd world country, XSS cost less than half of a PS5. Xbox as a service was way better too, prices are regionalized, Game Pass is still a sweet deal here and I got to buy OG and 360 games that I missed out on.
Now that Xbox's finally done, I feel like shouting to the void.
I own a Series S and Game Pass and I've loved them both and it's been incredibly frustrating seeing how Microsoft had something good and then kept shooting themselves on the foot.
My hot take is that Xbox WAS good.
