If you ever wondered how and why the heck Chicago dyes the river green for St. Paddy's ... youtu.be/eHbvkWAzqac?... #chicago #stpaddys
Finished The Secret History and immediately pulled My Dear Henry off the shelf as my next read. Do these books have anything to do with each other? No. But it made me laugh. IYKYK π€·ββοΈ #booksky
Just saw someone's dream fan-cast of The Secret History had Timothee Chalamet for Richard and I hate it here.
52. The Secret History, Donna Tartt
We are almost certainly not meant to think Henry is hot but, well, here we are.
50 & 51.
A Rover's Story, Jasmine Warga
Project Hail Mary, Andy Weir
This weekend we went to space. Also, I'm now furious I have to wait a whole week and a half for this movie to come out.
The Secret History, Donna Tartt
Worth mentioning that lawyers were vastly overrepresented among the commanders of the Einsatzgruppen.
ME: omg i have so much to do today
BRAIN: best i can do is none of it so that you don't feel bad for only doing some of it
ME: that doesn't make any sense
BRAIN: don't tell me how to do my job
49. And Now, Back to You, B.K. Borison
I love B.K. Borison's book covers because, yeah, they fit the exhaustingly ubiquitous illustrated trend. But like, they are also good? And have their own unique style? And like...were done by proper professional illustrators who seem to care about the books?
48. Hopeless, Elsie Silver
At a certain point, we just read things to complete series.
IT. IS. GAPING.
Second election in a row that my partner and I have dropped our ballots in the mailbox on the same day and he's gotten his confirmation and I haven't...so now we make ANOTHER voting plan, I guess.
47. Agatha Christie's Seven Dials (Netflix)
Really just made me want to re-read some Agatha Christie
I wrote about how the US and Israel carried out an attack on an Iranian girls school on par with the OKC bombing and US media relegated it to a back page story. No stand alone evening news segments, no front page stories, it made A11 in the NYT then everyone moved on.
fellas drop everything , cancel all your plans and take your girl to this . and i Fucking Guarantee she will nut you off
46. This Will Be Interesting, E.B. Asher
Cozy, cute, swoon worthy AND swashbuckling. Suspenseful without being stressful.
Basically, I had a great time, as I'd expect after enjoying book 1. [full review here: www.goodreads.com/review/show/... ] (arc from @netgalley.bsky.social ) #booksky
A buddy Pad snapped this pic of 'An Epic History of Failure' in the wild (aka the children's 'New & Notable Nonfiction' section at one of my favorite Chicago bookstores)
Thanks @unabridgedbooks.bsky.social , you're the best! π
My kingdom for a check and/or balance.
Good! I hope to inspire rabbit holes! The word count limitations (and intended reader age) sometimes made it difficult to include all of the context or tasty details I wanted, haha, so rabbit holes are very encouraged
Yeah it's more of bite sized bits of history and illustration so maaaaybe? π€·
consultants will say this is ai
I wholeheartedly agree
It might be fine for him. Tbh I think much of it is too advanced for the younger age of the 5-8 range. BUT you can preview a few spreads on Neon Squids website and probably Amazon if you want to check it out and decide for yourself
It's HEEEEERE! Happy US Publication Day to An Epic History of Failure.
This blundering book full of fun facts and mindless mishaps for the curious 5-8 y.o. readers in your life is officially on shelves at major US and UK retailers + online.
Go forth and blunder, friends #booksky
A very happy birthday to a very distinguished gentledog
I am a chaotic reader at the best of times.
45. On Tyranny, Timothy Snyder
Thanks I hated it*
[*loved it, but hate how poignant it is]
44. Bridgerton Season 4 (Netflix)
Gotta love when you know a spoiler and still sob for an extended period of time. Thanks for the ugly tears but also the swoons, Shonda.
43. Anderson in Bloom, Jennifer Dugan
I fluctuated between wanting to strangle these two, push their faces together to kiss, and forcibly remove them from each other's proximity. But in like...a good way?
[big thanks to @netgalley.bsky.social for the arc]
