This reminds me of our mission at the Sewcialists, and I love seeing that spirit out in the world.

I just spotted this on Kickstarter and sat up at attention: www.kickstarter.com/projects/ply... especially once I saw this line in the summary: "celebrate and elevate knitters across the entire spectrum of color, ability, gender, and queerness". Heck yeah!
A poster for the Kitchener Waterloo Knitters' Fair 2025. It has the KW Knitters' Guild logo, a doodle of a yarn ball with knitting needles and the following text: 80 Artisanal vendors with: Yarn & fibre Project bags Needles, hooks, tools Pottery & wood accessories And so much more! Saturday, September 13 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM Kitchener Memorial Auditorium kwkg.ca/fair
The countdown is on: the #KWKnittersFair2025 is less than 4 weeks away now! Join us at the Kitchener Aud (that's Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) for two arenas full of yarny goodness. Visit kwkg.ca/fair for more information, including the list of vendors!
I have donated, and sent you the info via Mastodon, but feel free to count me in either pile! @johannabee.bsky.social sent me your way.
This post is being shared over on Mastodon, too; let's see which social network can get there first!
Today the Trevor Project has a donor providing a 4x match to our contributions: www.thetrevorproject.org
My employer also provides a 2x match.
Good luck! And safe travels!
@johannabee.bsky.social Thanks for telling me you'd gotten yours! I had to pick up a prescription today, so I asked; they said it's the same vaccine formulation as in the fall, but you should get it every 6 months, and they asked if I wanted it now. So, I just got my... 8th? ... COVID jab.
Oh excellent! I will ask.
Dang. π£
Alas, I was thinking this was an article from this year, and I could go book another shot! I wonder if I can, anyway...
It's not actually KNITTING, but I think @aklori.bsky.social's Exploring Tunisian Crochet might be along the lines of what you're looking for. Starts basic, builds skills in increasingly complex projects. www.akloridesigns.com/ExploringTun...
a graphic with the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters' Guild's logo (which looks like the letters kw written in loopy yarn, over a doodle of a yarn ball), and the following text: Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters' Guild 2025 Knitters' Fair, Saturday, September 13, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Kitchener Memorial Auditorium
It's official, friends! The #kwknittersfair2025 is happening on September 13, 9:30 AM-3:30 PM, at the Kitchener Aud. Vendor applications are now open, with a deadline of June 30. Visit linktr.ee/KWKNITTERSGU... to find out more, whether you're a prospective vendor, volunteer, or attendee!
My ancestors lived in Happisburgh, as far back as we can trace. The erosion is horrific -- we assume that there's a good chance that where they actually lived has been washed away -- but kayaking from that lighthouse does sound fun.
Yup! My dad the botanist taught me well... but somehow writing it out, it didn't feel like what people actually SAY. π
There's still that much in the back yard, which is shaded -- but the front yard is snow-free and starting to have green things! All the rain on the weekend did melt a lot of the snow.
A handful of little purple crocuses blooming, with a few other green shoots promising more to come. There's a skeleton of a maple leaf curled up on the ground in the midst of the cluster of blooms.
A cluster of white snowdrops in the sunshine. They're pushing up through a mass of dead brown leaves, and they're such a punch of bright happy colour against the dark, drab ground.
The first flowers of spring! Purple crocus (crocuses? crocusses? croci?) peeking up in our front yard, and snowdrops suddenly filling our neighbour's yard. Isn't it incredible how much hope those little petals hold?
A body form wearing a black graduation robe with a white collar, knitted lace, stating Dissent.
"Nothing stops them from deciding that dissent is a crime. Nothing stops them from sending journalists, activists, and political opponents to disappear behind bars." from the @godpod.bsky.social newsletter. Dissent, I say. (Pattern available from my ravelry store, www.ravelry.com/patterns/lib...) π§Ά
A yellow swatch of Tunisian crochet, made with fingering weight yarn held double. My left hand is spreading the fabric to keep it from rolling too much while I take the photo.
Proof that I still remember what I'm doing! ππ
@solace-in-stitches.bsky.social is the designer and she's on Bluesky!
And... I have a set of Tunisian hooks if you want to try, Katherine π I did @aklori.bsky.social's intro to Tunisian CAL and loved it.
A pile of wet laundry, pulled from the washing machine. The entire load is tangled up in some very lovely hot pink merino silk yarn.
File under: reasons not to store your scrap yarn π§Ά on the wall directly above the laundry hamper. π€¦ββοΈ Glad this was a load of mostly towels and none have been dyed pink!
Oh god, so much this. Also I had to get iron infusions for many years for anemia.
Doctor: "Do you have heavy periods?"
Me: "I don't know how mine compare, I've never had anyone else's periods."
Reader, I have PCOS and fibroids. I HAD HEAVY F'ING PERIODS. π
It sure is. And they do takeout, too, if you're rushing home from doggy daycare and need something quick... π
Full disclosure: I heard about the place because one of the owners is married to my sibling's good friend. He tried to give us a discount for being willing to film some review comments, but we paid full price, very happily! And we'll be back again, no question.
He's also been writing some fun stuff lately with Cathy Fink.
The front of house is beautifully decorated with a modern style, lots of gold and clean lines, and comfortable velvet dining chairs at sleek black tables. The whole counter is filled with huge trays of baklava and other sweets.
Some of the packed up trays of sweets to go, with mahmoul and baklava and all kinds of things I couldn't begin to name. All look delicious but I'd need a whole vial of insulin to taste-test them all!
And the sweet counter filled with treats to take home for Ramadan or just for pleasure!
Paul's chicken mandi. It's half a grilled chicken, laid on a bed of seasoned rice, and topped with toasted almonds. He was making the happiest noises while eating -- the best testimonial!
Lynda's smoked meat sandwich, with a side of fries and salad. (The fries are crispy and are so good dipped in garlic toum!)
My halloumi plate. Crispy grilled halloumi slices on a bed of fries with salad. So tasty.
A sampling of their sweets, which we shared! There are pistachio fingers (the green cylinders at the top of the plate); "mussels" in the middle of the plate, which were delicious phyllo shells with a sweet rich cheese and nut filling; Turkish baklava ("it's like baklava but better" according to one of the owners) on the right; and cashew and hazelnut squares with finely shredded phyllo at the bottom left. All exquisite.
More of the goodies -- again see alt text for description and notes.
My husband, a white man in a rust tee and a grey hoodie, pulls an excited face and gives two thumbs up to his loaded beef plate (which he later described as Syrian poutine).
My in-laws, a white couple in their 70s, getting excited to dig into their lunches. My MIL has a Syrian smoked meat sandwich and my FIL had a chicken mandi (half a her bed and spiced chicken over rice).
All of our meals came with a bowl of lemony lentil soup with some pita crisps on the side. Light and delicious!
My husband's loaded beef plate. It has waffle cut fries, shawarma beef, and a spicy cheese sauce, plus various picked veg on the side.
Kitchener-Waterloo folks, please go check out Palmyra Grill and Desserts on Lancaster (nr Ammar Halal). Hard to open a Syrian restaurant during Ramadan, but wow, their food is phenomenal and they are so kind. Details of dishes in the alt text.
Happy International Women's Day, and cast-on day for the #UnfreeMAL! The next several weeks I will post case studies on how we can leave behind subsets of women if we aren't intersectional in our activism.

That is amaaaaazing. How was it working colourwork with the unspun yarn? I'd be so afraid it would drift apart across the floats.
