Our team in our booth during FOSDEM 26
#FOSDEM 26: come to see our team on the XCP-ng/Xen Orchestra booth! Check our free shiny stickers 🥳
Xen Orchestra 6.1 is now available! Many improvements, both in terms of UI, REST API but also for our devops tools: Packer/Terraform providers, an official doc for Talos and much more.
It's also the opportunity to announce our tech partnership with Pure Storage!

As you can see, it’s been a very busy year.
These major releases are laying down the foundations for 2026 and beyond. Still a bit amazed that we managed to build all of this in 2025. Now I understand why it felt so intense 😂
Xen Orchestra 5.112 is out! 🎃
Mirror backup sync merge, new XO 6 views, big REST API milestone, Lenovo IPMI, NetBox 4.4 support… And more!
Plus a recap of our recent announcements: @veeam.com beta for XCP-ng, signed Windows drivers & large disk support!

FINALLY. Another big milestone for us.
XO 5.111 is out. And yes, the release notes are almost as long as September felt 😅
2 weeks ago, ETH Zürich revealed VMScape, a new CPU side-channel attack.
KVM and VMware are affected, Xen isn’t.
Not because Xen is flawless, but because its microkernel-like design puts security first.
virtualize.sh/blog/vmscape...
We reviewed the recent NPM supply chain attack: Xen Orchestra production users (XOA or from source) are not affected: only dev environments could be at risk if yarn.lock was ignored.

🛰️ XO 5.110 is here!
10–20x faster VMware migrations ⚡
VEEAM closed beta with native XCP-ng ✅
First redesigned backup UI in XO 6 🎨
…and plenty more improvements!

Great news for those relying on @veeam.com 🎉
If you’re part of the Veeam 100 Program, you can already test the brand-new XCP-ng plugin, bringing native compatibility between the Vates stack and Veeam products!
Cf the article. The only thing preventing us to sign is Microsoft taking ages to do it. We hope they will finally move forward!
We’re now upstream maintainers of the Windows PV drivers 🥳 It’s the result of months of work to improve things where it really matters.
Along the way, we found a vuln, one that led the biggest cloud provider to patch millions of VMs 🤯
That’s what involvement looks like!

Xen Orchestra 5.108 just landed. So far, likely the biggest release of the year! Tons of new endpoints for the REST API, Qcow2 backup, Azure Storage, many new views in XO 6 & XO Lite and so on. DevOps side is also well packed with a CCM for XO among other things.

Just after XCP-ng 8.3 became LTS, we kicked off the journey to 9.0. Things are getting real: we're moving from early exploration to a first concrete target.
XO 6.0 as the default UI + XCP-ng 9.0 pre-pre-pre-alpha in 2025?
Maybe 👀 Stay tuned!
Who owns your virtualization stack?
It’s not a feature list: just a point of view on what (I think) really matters post-VMware.
I did my best to keep it fair, even if I’m someone building one of the alternatives.
Let’s skip the tool tribalism please 🙏

✅ XCP-ng 8.3 is now LTS!
– Long Term Support status
– XOSTOR now supported
– Refreshed ISOs with latest updates & security fixes
No new version to install if you're already on 8.3: just keep updating!

Europe doesn’t need to build everything. But it does need to stop outsourcing its future.
My thoughts after many many years in deep tech.
virtualize.sh/blog/the-rig...
Je pense que c'est toujours utile, à donner un angle/point de vue ou expérience que ne donneras pas un LLM. Pourquoi je préfère ci ou ça par rapport à mon expérience, le contextualiser dans un besoin existant etc.
Luckily, it's only a minority. But yeah, at this scale and done this way, it is remarkable 😆
Hypervisors and low-level network plumbing are still one of my passions. New IT employee pro tip: learn low-level #SysAdmin, #kernel dev, and #networking. The AI datacenters don't run on vibe code kids... 😏
Building a full stack (from hypervisor to orchestration) is already a huge challenge.
But what about building the knowledge and the team behind it?
You can't just "git clone" expertise, experience, and trust.

Really happy with how this collaboration came together: it all started with a shared customer request and quickly turned into a perfect match with our existing solutions.
Exciting stuff, and definitely more to come in this space!
Can you scale a company to more than 100 people while staying fully self-hosted and using only open source tools?
Check out our updated 2025 stack: what we use, what we replaced, and what’s next!

Pourtant je suis resté factuel 😄
I thought it was time to share some perspective on what it takes to build a full virtualization stack.
We’ve learned a lot over the years, often the hard way. Using a platform is one thing. Building and maintaining it is something else entirely.

I'm incredibly proud of what the team has accomplished with this XO release 🤩
A huge thanks to everyone involved: your hard work and dedication are really paying off. It’s amazing to see how much our team has ramped up, delivering such an impressive release in just one month.
