This is exactly how the media enables fascism. They are essentially saying that it is not normal for people to have the freedom to choose how they want to identify and live their lives. Instead, normalizing the government making those choices for us.

I have a brother that lives in rural Montana that is completely disconnected from reality. He was never into politics before Trump but is a die hard supporter. He and his buddies are the ones that will not tolerate war. They hate the war hawks and neocons of the past and war reminds them of that.
The Trump supporters I know won’t tolerate war. Strangely, that’s their hard line.
The only reason Republicans have a reputation as "fiscal hawks" is that the press refuses to tell the public basic facts about what they do when they are in office.

Rural America is being inundated with propaganda. They don’t have enough of a connection outside of their bubble to know what they are being told is false. My MIL lived in rural VA and truly believed NYC was a very dangerous place and that immigrants were killing people there.

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered.
Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again.
