Block (Square & Cash app maker) is laying off 4.000 of its 10,000 employees as part of an effort to "move faster with smaller, highly talented teams using AI to automate more work."
I've talked about this being the trend across big tech but this is even more drastic than I expected.
MITβs NANDA initiative found that 95% of generative AI deployments fail after interviewing 150 execs, surveying 350 workers, and analyzing 300 projects. The real βproductivity gainsβ seem to come from layoffs and squeezing more work from fewer people not AI.
