Oh you want to run a oneshot that becomes the origin of the gift giving winter holiday? First you gotta make a holiday. Then you gotta decide how long this holiday has been around. Then you need to flesh out the various time periods of your history. And THEN you can decide where it goes
Planning a holiday D&D oneshot set in my homebrew world for next weekend. Sat down to prep. Spent 3 hours fleshing out the timeline of my world’s events instead. Why? Because is asked myself “when would I like this to be?” And then realized i didn’t know what would make sense

Fun, mysterious, and perfect for reading on crisp autumn days, Locks & Keys is a quick, fun read. I loved the range in styles, from grimdark to low fantasy, and hopeless battles to sneaky thieves to a cook who’s way in over her head!

The action and the conspiracy were the strongest parts of the book. I liked how the different POVs brought the sides of the conspiracy together. I enjoyed the characters as well, even when they were making stupid decisions. Some of those scenes were funny.
Overall solid book. 4 ⭐️
The Scion Conspiracy is a strong debut featuring multiple characters entrenched in a conspiracy surrounding missing children.

If you're looking for an epic grimdark fantasy like ASOIAF or Dreams of Dust and Steel, look no further than this brutal, powerful start to an awesome series. Featuring multiple POVs spanning the Ring, you'll be sucked deep into political intrigue, gory battles, and a cultist conspiracy. 5 stars!
The action scenes were good, and some of the twists were great.
If you're into dystopian futures with cool armored suits, mysteries, and crazy characters, give this series a try!
I do think the author had done some more "showing" and less "telling", but could still use more work. I also think more characterization might've helped with that. For example, there's two characters whose relationship I wasn't sold on as it felt forced/rushed.
Filled with action and intrigue and set in a distant future on the Rings, this sequel left me with a bigger picture of life on the rings, with more mysteries to unravel in a future installment.
