Close up of red and yellow painted anemone
Painted Anemones are some of the most beautiful creatures on dives in the PNW. They're so colorful and architectural, but often get overlooked because they're so common.

Dorids come in so many shapes, sizes and colors. This Heath's Dorid (Geitodoris heathi) - I think - caught my eye because of it's incredible marbling!

Hermit crab in a spiky orange shell on the sand.
We often see hermits in smooth shells, so this spiky one caught my eye!

Lemon Nudibranch are pretty common in the Pacific Northwest, but can you spot what's a little harder to get a good shot of?

Little octopus with scars above its eyes
Did anyone else's January kick their ass? Seems that this poor octo really felt it too, with literal chunks of flesh missing.

Close up of eelgrass isopod with one antenna
More fun macro phptography finds! This Eelgrass Isopod (Pentidotea resecata) only has one antenna! Also, can you spot the tiny butt of perhaps an even smaller Isopod?
There isn't much documentation on the Eelgrass Isopod, but they are are to find and hard as hell to photograph!

A diamondback tritonia nudibranch on sand
Zoom in to the left rhinophore of the diamondback tritonia to barely see a white, clear copepod with red eyes
Zoom even more in to the left rhinophore of the diamondback tritonia to barely see a white, clear copepod with red eyes
Nudibranch like this Diamondback Tritonia are already pretty small, but look closer. Do you see the even tinier critters in this photo? Scroll for Copepods (I think).

Yellow and blue fish with white spots in front of huge barrel sponges
The only wide angle shot I took during the Banda Sea Liveaboard was of this adult Midnight Snapper (Macolor macularis) at around 25m, while in search of Hammerheads.
Midnight Snapper have distincly different looks at its life phases. I can't wait to go back and look for the juvy!

'Vogue' It's amazing how much lives in the reef if you look hard enough! The Rust-Colored Guard Crab (Trapezia rufopunctata) has a symbiotic relationship with its coral home - it feeds on coral polyps while depending it from Crown of Thorns or other coral-killing critters.

The Striped Sun Star (Solaster stimpsoni) is another PNW native that typically has 10 arms and feeds on sea cucumbers and sea pens. It is commonly eaten by its cousin the Morning Sea Star (Solaster dawsoni). How rude!
