Our plan is just the same as “regular“ emergency plans.

Insult Bloat IN THE '90s, IF SOMEONE FROM "THE LEFT" TRIED TO USE INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE, THEY WERE MOCKED AS "POLITICALLY CORRECT." ‘90s person: WE LIVE IN A MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY. Man in bowtie: PC! THE TERM EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ANYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH "THE LEFT." Man: I SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE. Right winger: PC! WOKE! ENEMY WITHIN! THEN MANY IDEAS THAT HAD BEEN WIDELY ACCEPTED AS BASIC VALUES BECAME DEFINED AS "LEFT WING" AND THEREFORE "PC." Hegseth: "THE DUMB, POLITICALLY CORRECT WARS OF THE PAST... HAD RESTRICTIVE, MINIMALIST RULES OF ENGAGEMENT." FIRST PERSON TO EVER CALL IRAQ WAR "PC" NOW, EVERYTHING IS "PC" (OR "WOKE") EXCEPT FOR THE CHAOTIC WHIMS OF ULTRAVIOLENT MAN-BOYS. Iranian woman: PLEASE DON'T KILL ME! Young man in red hat: OH, STOP BEING SO YOU-KNOW-WHAT!
Latest comic on changing usage of the insult "PC," a form of linguistic warfare that has successfully redefined morality, human rights, and democracy itself as "liberal" -- and therefore weak, effeminate, and inferior.
one of the earliest lessons in politics I learned as a kid from my parents was to always vote for a tax increase, because you're trading a dollar amount so small you probably won't notice in order to fund something important that benefits everybody. I wish that was how Democrats messaged this stuff!
The abrupt defenestration of a veteran lawmaker, and what it says about the inadequacy of the Legislature's policies on sexual harassment.

As a society, we don't let kids smoke cigarettes. We don't let kids see mature movies in the theatre. We don't let kids play with pornography. There is absolutely no reason we can't ban AI products designed for children. All it takes is government will.
I guess smashing in the door of the wrong house while armed to the teeth, looking the other way while the keystone gestapo shoot at the ground, and banging up a few protesters is just “assisting in the execution of a lawful warrant”?
If you are looking for information from on the ground in Vermont, this is your MOST reliable source:

I’d really like people to know and understand that it’s not just one of VT’s busiest streets.
It’s a school zone.
This was our drop off time.
I could see the accident from my classroom window as our students tried to arrive safely to school.
The layers of harm here… there is so much 💔
ICE wearing all brown… brown shirt.
This is the ICE officer who put hands on me:
Do not allow Vermont’s governor (or others) to lie to you.
We were there to keep our neighbors safe. We were met with violent brutality.
#vermont some of the most thorough coverage I have read about yesterday’s ICE activity in South Burlington.
Note an officer tripped and fired their service weapon in the house according to the article.
It’s important to remember when you’re reading this story that doesn’t agree with your experience on the ground that VPR’s first priority in situations like this is ensuring the comfortable remain comfortable, and the way they do that is by making Phil Scott look reasonable, moderate and effective
A look at the first Democratic candidate for governor, and a review of Democratic politicians' collective failure to challenge Gov. Phil Scott.

Story gets weirder: Trying to apprehend a Mexican man who had allegedly re-entered the US after deportation, ICE caused a multi-car pileup on one of Vermont’s busiest streets, shut it to traffic for a whole day, besieged a house where they thought he was, and did NOT get their man.
Didn't expect much and wasn't disappointed. The agitation and escalation were decidedly one-sided here.
Today's update: "The ordeal, which represents the first major clash between protesters and federal immigration agents in Vermont, appears to have been based on faulty surveillance that resulted in the violent arrest of three people unrelated to the initial enforcement operation." #ICE #VT
Phil Scott “the VT State police and local PD were amazing” 🥴
The local cops in action.
This is a friend of mine who is pressing charges against the cop.
Cities in Vermont and Maine are experiencing some of the same tactics that ICE has been using across Minnesota since December, and facing lots of resistance.
We know where most of them are but we have higher priorities to ensure the safety of Americans.

Tear gas deployed during protest of ICE operation in South Burlington
Emails obtained by NBC5 say the South Burlington High School has moved into a 'secure crisis command,' but administrators say students are and staff are safe

UPDATE: A tense, day-long standoff outside a South Burlington house ended Wednesday night with federal immigration agents removing three people inside and a series of violent clashes between police and hundreds of activists who tried to impede the apprehension.

"Tear gas was deployed and loud bangs could be heard around 7 p.m. Several protesters could be seen running away and screaming as loud bangs and smoke filled the street."

ICE chased community members through a school zone - at drop off time.
They then terrorized our community for hours.
Schools in lockout. More police than I’ve ever seen in my life.
They do not make us safe. We make us safe & today… we really tried 💔
I finally lost my shit about so-called AIs, LLMs, enshittification & everything fucking evil that @officialgrammarly.bsky.social is doing. I'm fucking furious, and not just about what 1 company has done. An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine www.moryan.com/an-open-lett...
"People used to be excited about tech, now they dread what data you're going to steal next, they dread what violation of privacy or the environment will turn up next."
this whole missive will make you want to stand on your desk and yell "O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN!," but that bit really got me good
Politicians move on but war lasts for decades.
Three recent items in the news underscore one of my core beliefs: We have no idea how well state government performs.
