Did baby boomers eat all the pies? John Lanchester on the truth about the generation gap It’s a grim time to be in your 20s, no doubt, but don’t blame it all on older people: being chopped up into ever smaller rivalries only serves the market

“Brexit.. caused the biggest voluntary loss of rights in British history, and economically was somewhere on the spectrum between a mistake and a disaster… The old voted to jeopardise the economic prospects of the young.”

Please would you tell us about the origins of the Beserker? Is there any connection with the expression ‘going berserk’?

The pub - a unique part of English culture. A valuable place of community and communality, so much more than just drinking. A place to meet mates, a refuge from the cold and loneliness, a venue for live music, host to the weekly pub quiz, stage for the Morris dancing side. And more.

Geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East once again shows that reliance on volatile oil and gas exposes economies to price shocks.

Renewables, electrification and storage offer more stable long term energy costs and stronger energy security.

Ella’s Law has been published 👏

No child should have the growth of their lungs stunted because of dirty air where they live and play, yet this is the reality of air pollution in England. Ella’s Law would change this.

My thanks to Rosamund and all the hard-working campaigners demanding change.

Reeves reaffirms commitment to end windfall tax in talks with North Sea bosses The Chancellor met figures from BP, TotalEnergies and Serica in Downing Street.

I'm dismayed by rumours govt may scrap the windfall tax on oil and gas giants

With energy bills still driving cost of living pressures, it's senseless to cut taxes for highly profitable polluters, who already receive £2.7bn per year in tax breaks

The data is clear: walking and cycling are good for our health, for the public purse, and for our cityscapes.

That's why @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social continues to push for better active travel infrastructure across our whole city.

Greens overtake Labour in sensational poll The Greens have polled higher than Labour in the latest poll by YouGov, which puts them only two points off Reform UK and five ahead of the governing party.

"Of those who voted Labour [in 2024], just 37% would vote Labour again".
Read that again to absorb the full, astonishing weight of what it means.
Starmer, Reeves and co have burnt their house down.

Very worrying indeed. UK mustn’t be drawn into another war in the Middle East. Lessons should have been learnt from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Green party membership in UK passes 200,000 after byelection victory Party leader Zack Polanski says surge in numbers ‘proves that the future of progressive politics belongs to the Greens’ The Green party said its membership has passed 200,000 this weekend in the wake of its victory in the Gorton and Denton byelection overturning a huge Labour majority. I saw how the Greens channelled voters’ anger – and fused it with hope. That’s why they won in Gorton and Denton | Owen Jones Starmer called the byelection a battle for the nation’s soul. This result shows Labour has lost that – and I think it will lose much more, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones

The politics of hope are back.

The politics of fear are in crisis.

Reform letter

Reform letter

This is sectarianism- Reform election literature in Gorton & Denton by-election, positioning Reform as defender of Christian English values. Shameless manipulation of Christianity for political gain. As a #Christian, I say ‘not in my name’. The cross must not be co-opted by the far right

Now there is hope! It's no longer a choice between grim and grimmer. We can vote for who we want and win. Anywhere.
It's just one constituency, but the Green victory in Gorton and Denton is an electric shock to our political system.
