Drove a delivery truck for an ice cream company, fought in WW2. Grandma was a part time seamstress at a factory. (Btw they were able to get a house, add a second story and a mother-in-law unit to it, plus a big backyard, two car garage and support 5 kids on their salary. Impossible today.)
