The Trump Admin. Says It Supports Career-Tech. Ed. It Canceled CTE Grants Anyway
Nineteen projects—many in rural areas—lost funding that was helping students prepare for college and careers.
Probably missed but the administration cancelled grants for Career Technical Education. These are programs to train students to be nurses, engineers, electricians, plumbers, software developers, dentists and so many other skills.

The Trump administration has touted efforts to prepare K-12 students for the workforce.
But last summer, the Education Department canceled 19 ongoing grants for school-based projects doing just that.

How to Shred the Department of Education
Republicans have been trying to dissolve the Department of Education since it was created. Under Trump, this is how they are dismantling the federal agency, step by step
Donald Trump is dismantling the Education Department piece by piece. Since taking office they've laid off 40% of its staff and moved billions in grant programs to other agencies.
We dug into the numbers and the impact of the White House's plan: www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...

Federal funding for low-income students and special education will remain level year over year.
New: After 15 months of speculation over how a Republican-controlled Congress under Trump would handle education funding, we have the answer: Virtually no changes.
-Level $$ for Title I, IDEA, Head Start
-No new block grants
-No programs or agencies eliminated

The Washington-Baltimore News Guild strongly condemns the layoffs announced today at The Washington Post. These cuts represent yet another blow to a newsroom that has already been pushed to its limits and a disservice to the readers who rely on The Post for rigorous, independent journalism.

This image shows a logo of The Washington Post Guild and our statement:
The Post Guild vehemently opposes any more cuts to the staff of The Washington Post. As we’ve seen in recent years, continuing to eliminate scores of workers who make this storied institution what it is only stands to weaken the newspaper, drive away readers and undercut The Post’s mission: to hold power to account without fear or favor and provide critical insight into communities across the region, country and world.
If Jeff Bezos no longer supports that mission, then The Post and its readers deserve a steward who does.
If you value The Post’s journalism and its renowned past — if you care about its future — we ask that you join us in our call to #SaveThePost.

Rebuking Trump, Congress Moves to Maintain Most Federal Education Funding
Funding for key programs like Title I and IDEA are on track to remain level year over year.
New: Congress is on the verge of (largely) rebuking President Trump's budget proposal for education.
No major funding cuts, no block grants...but also no explicit block on ED efforts to shift program staff elsewhere. www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

In Trump's First Year, at Least $12 Billion in School Funding Disruptions
The administration's cuts to schools came through the Education Department and other agencies.
President Trump took office one year ago today.
Since then, his administration has disrupted at least $12 billion in federal funding for education (and likely much more).
I did my best to tabulate the damage for @edweek.org: www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

The administration's cuts to schools came through the Education Department and other agencies.
The U.S. Department of Education alone moved to cancel, discontinue, or terminate more than 730 grants (!) across 30 separate K-12 and higher education programs.
Those grants were collectively worth at least $2.2 billion. Only a small fraction have been reinstated. www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

Dozens of Head Start Programs Still Aren't Receiving Promised Federal Funds
Some providers of pre-K and child care have waited more than a week for federal reimbursements that typically arrive in 24 hours.
Numerous Head Start programs had to temporarily shut down this year because federal funding they rely on to pay their staff came late.
These programs serve children ages 0-5, largely from low-income families, many in rural areas. www.edweek.org/policy-polit...
