The original pattern was confusing but you should only be dec stitches bef and after the 1st and 3rd stitch markers.

First Melt the Ice Hat off the needles. I bought the pattern from a Minneapolis yarn shop but did not follow it to a T. Did 2x2 ribbing and didnโt begin decrease rows until after I knit 2 inches in stockinette.
