Agreed! Such a challenge to participate, I can't imagine how you managed to still lead through that Ann Elise @anneliserecord.bsky.social You rock...thank you!!! #ElemMathChat

Good catch, I was going to say that too! #ElemMathChat
A7: Ok, this is the REALLY early primary educator writing an algebraic equation...7+4n=19 #ElemMathChat
A6: I love that square facts are part of the Foundational Facts in Bay-Williams' & Klings Multiplication/Division Progression (we don't have that fact in our Ontario curriculum). For example, having 6x6 memorized makes 6x7 so easy! #ElemMathChat
π It has taken me a lot of time to train my brain to say it that way...but I am getting there @ElemMathChat
Love the visual to see when we switched over to improper fractions that include a whole. #ElemMathChat
A5: Visually we can see that it is simply double. Looking at the root of a x4 fact, it is interesting to see that the Derived Fact of x8 is simply "double the double". #ElemMathChat
We've been doing a lot of unit fraction work with out junior students in Ontario, based on the work of Cathy Bruce and her colleagues who wrote Rethinking Fractions. We've found unit fraction work to be a critical foundation that our students needed #ElemMathChat
A4: I notice that the number on the top is smaller until we get to 4/4, then the number of the top is larger. I wonder what that means. 13/4 comes next, but what quantity is that truly if I wanted to visualize it. #ElemMathChat
A3: Yum & fun! Between the 0 and 1/4β¦ #ElemMathChat
A1: Both start with green addends and are followed by red addends. The way 12 is composed in each is different. It makes me wonder how many uniques ways 12 can be composed #ElemMathChat
That makes my educator heart so happy!!! Thank you so much for sharing π€
Same, not seeing them #ElemMathChat
A0: Leslie from Waterloo, Ontario. Im currently a Math Facilitator. The warm weather brought me joy today (itβs finally here!) #ElemMathChat
Agreed, lots of fun talking about one of my favourite topics - math tools! Thanks @drnickinewton.bsky.social #ElemMathChat
Ooo how I love Solvememobiles too!! #ElemMathChat
Agreed! Mine all get a takeout container at the beginning of the year (e.g., Cuisenaire rods, counters, base 10, dice, laminated ten frames, laminated bottom up hundreds charts, laminated number paths). We learn how to keep them organized at the beginning of the year #ElemMathChat
This such a necessary tool to physically show students how equivalence works. I find a nice followup digital visual is the balance scale on @polypad.bsky.social :-) #ElemMathChat
When creating a 100cm x 100cm Relational Rod tray years ago, I had just read this article by Bay-Williams and Fletcher and it resonates so much that we include this type of hundreds chart in the box with the trays. Just makes so much sense! #ElemMathChat
Agreed, best to use tools that have legs (e.g., tools that prompt unitizing over counting by ones or tools that allow for relational thinking). #ElemMathChat
Thatβs a really interesting tool that I havenβt seen before. From a quick Google search, it appears they are used in the same way we are using 100 bead rekenreks for intervention. We are finding them great for showing arrays #ElemMathChat
Thatβs interesting, a tray to prompt the organization of a ten frame! #ElemMathChat
I will check it out, thanks @drnickinewton.bsky.social! #ElemMathChat
Yes, the versatility and ability to extend with dice is awesome. Such amazing games in the Building Math Fluency kits! #ElemMathChat
Fun Fact - this is the first time Iβve posted on Blue Sky! I thought #ElemMathChat would be the perfect time to jump in!
Weβve found that 100 bead rekenreks are an extremely useful tool and we weave it into a lot of our intervention resources. I am curious if beaded number lines might be another good option. #ElemMathChat
Oh yes, weβve talked about our shared love of them before π«Ά
Same! I am curious to learn more. #ElemMathChat
A1: Leslie from Ontario Canadaβ¦Cuisenaire Rods are my favourite math tool by far! #ElemMathChat
