Searching for an artist who can really capture our beloved shark's "derp" for a new product label.
Help us retweet for visibility, or tag your buds below! Looking for bold, thick lines and the ability to work with PSDs.
Those compounds are then steam distilled to produce a "butter" we use in cosmetics and fine fragrance.
The ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians all produced it - It has a long history of use in the Mediterranean and has even been used to make syrups since it tastes like raspberry!
The main smell we associate with lipstick comes from orris root.
It's the bulb of the iris flower.
But unlike the flower it has no smell.
After oxidzing and aging for 3-5 years it produces rare chemicals (b/y-irone) that can't be made synthetically.
Sorry just saw this - It's automatically applied! βΊοΈ
It was deliberately mis-named when it was discovered in the early 19th century because the chemists sought to conceal its identity and structure from competitors.
100 years later. Everyone working in flavor and fragrance still utilize the fake name rather than "ethyl methyl phenyl glycidate"
The flavor and fragrance industry analogy to electronics that sand the numbers of chips to prevent reverse engineering:
Aldehyde C-16 is a cheap synthetic strawberry compound used in lots of candies, bath products, lip balms. It is not an aldehyde, nor does it contain 16 carbons.
@littlepuddlesco.bsky.social actually just got the ability to ship within the EU a few weeks ago! π
Could definitely be done! Our setup is specifically targeting VOCs so we likely wouldn't see much in our case. Possible with solvent separation and running a polar column you'd see all kinds of stuff you didn't want to drink! π€’
(Especially us since we have a well!)
We've been talking for a while about doing a library scent - a lot of folks have done it; but none of them smell as accurate to my memory as what I'd like to make! π€€
We tried testing at one point, but have to retry as it turns out you need books from before acid-free paper was a thing.
People genuinely didn't understand toxicology for aggregated exposure of this stuff back then - In fact, the FDA is so inept when it comes to this stuff we still find stuff like Lilial (banned 3years ago elsewhere else) all over US products. They just "send it to the Americans" π€£
Actually until MoCRA there was never any FDA regulation for scent in the US (which only classified scents with toys as cosmetics) The US is decades behind most 1st world countries in terms of regulation so we instead stick to IFRA and RIFM monographs when formulating our products.
The other one in the same category that's really interesting is "Amouage Gold Man"
Lilac, Neroli, and Ylang Ylang - It hits a stack of floral and citrus that IMMEDIATELY gives "Luxury baby powder"
Not the ethanol based sprays unfortunately - air shipping flammable product has been a real challenge as far as regulation goes. But we can send "Little One" spray, as well as all the oils!
You have NO idea how bad I want to do chocolate π
Some of our chemical suppliers carry a supercritical CO2 wax extracted from cacao and one of these days imma order it... It's nightmarishly expensive but I'll bet it smells incredible!
Unfortunately π - But if you happen to be in the UK @littlepuddlesco.bsky.social is carrying it so you wouldn't have to pay USPS's outrageous international shipping!

If you've got suggestions for scents that checked those boxes for you in the 80's/90's/00's feel free to drop them below - We would love to get our noses on them!

Going for something period correct to empower recapture of youthful femininity.
Remember that waxy strawberry that girls' cosmetics had in the 00s?
Light and transparent. π
Floral and playful. π©
Hints of lipstick and plastic dolls π
Hold on to some of what you've got; It's a fine wine! - The current stock being sold from imports isn't the same thing - It's similar but J&J formulates the fragrance differently for different market tastes. The bottles online have Patchouli oil in lieu of the Cedar in the domestic one
Have you smelled Candescence Powder? Or the J+J Summer Blossoms?
Still my all personal all time favorite powder is Pinaud Clubman.
We actually just got in a sample of Tinkerbell girls makeup powder from the 60s/70s that smells crazy good too!
Have you ever wondered what Baja Blast is ACTUALLY flavored like?
πβπ© You start with a natural lime oil base and augment with artificial single compounds.

Meet the "Barbie Eye Drops," as we fondly call them: a perfume made as a children's toy that was included with dolls in 1994.
Let's find out what's inside!
Follow this post if you're curious, we're going to post a screen capture of us doing the analysis below.
We absolutely anthropomorphize the printer and frequently talk to it... We'll be in the middle of cleaning or working on the computer and it will start clicking and whirring...
"Hey you! No printer sounds! - I know you hear me!"
Over 250 lbs of batteries just in this one room! π«
Yup! That's its little home where it can make its occasional printer noises when no one asked it to print π©·π¨οΈ
