Of note: until recently only Kangerlussuag had a long enough runway for larger jets. Since we were there two other town have expanded their airports to support international flights (Nuuk and I forget the other). There are significant hunting and other outdoor adventure/tourism opportunities.

I guess I'm part of the minority. We hiked the Artic Circle Trail from Kangerlussuag to Sisimiut in 2015. While most of the folks we met on the trail (24 total over 10 days) were from various European countries there was no doubting the ethnicity of the native population.

I completely agree with this. I earned my PhD while working full time. Took the full 8 years. Those doing the PhD full time (GTA and full load of classes) finished in 4. I still don't read for enjoyment like I did before.

Explore 5 Day loop from Winfield | AllTrails Search over 450,000 trails with trail info, maps, detailed reviews, and photos curated by millions of hikers, campers, and nature lovers like you.

If you are ambitious you can add in a couple of 14ers along the way.

I also did a shorter 5/6 day version cutting through the middle of the loop.

If you start/finish at Twin Lakes that allows resupply at Monarch Pass AND Princeton Hot Springs. We did the Collegiate West first. Timing can be tricky since rooms at Princeton can fill up. Good stop for a shower at least. Phone service above (north) of Hwy 50 you can call and check availability.

The Highland bus has a long stop part way back (Hvolsvâllur?). Rather than waiting, we switched to a Strætó for the rest of the trip. There were a number of stops along the way and we had to make another change when we got into town but we still got into Reykjavik a couple of hours earlier.

Part of the challenge is getting a Highlands bus back from Skógar to Reykjavík. It takes the better part of the day and departs Skógar mid morning (10:15). Too early to catch if coming from Thórsmârk. So plan on a full day of travel at the end. There may be other options with Strætó.

Very easy to find. Near the central camp (Langidalur hut). Also where the busses cross. We spent 7 days. Extra nights at Hvanngil and ThΓ³rsmΓΆrk. It was a long final day on the FimmvΓΆrΓ°uhΓ‘ls.

My wife and I hiked Laugavegur and FimmvΓΆrΓ°uhΓ‘ls trails a couple of years ago. Absolutely spectacular.
Most challenging river crossing was going into ThΓ³rsmΓΆrk.
There should be a bridge going out of ThΓ³rsmΓΆrk. Don't try to wade that river.
