Prosecutorβs aggressive talk about Tren de Aragua has so far produced only plea deals www.cpr.org/2026/02/17/t... via @allisonsherry.bsky.social #copolitics
Last year, Colorado's top federal prosecutor told a bank of TV cameras this prosecution crippled Tren de Aragua in Colorado. Seven months later, that tough talk is largely unfulfilled and the office is pleading out the cases.

DENVER - Colorado Governor Jared Polis called for a full investigation into the death of Renee Nicole Good following a tragic incident with federal ICE agents in Minnesota. It has been reported that Ms. Good, the mother of a young child, is from the Colorado Springs area and has family living in Colorado. βWhat took place in a Minneapolis neighborhood is deeply disturbing, and the loss of Renee Good is tragic. My thoughts are with Reneeβs family, especially her young child, friends, and loved ones including those in Colorado. There must be a full investigation into this incident, and accountability. The American people deserve answers about what happened today,β said Governor Jared Polis.

BREAKING: Immigration judge issues a bond order for national immigration activist Jeanette Vizguerra -- story to come.
Mostly want there to be a record of all of the reporters working in the literal trenches to witness events and write about them and the obstacles therein.
Also want to note that @sarawilson.bsky.social at @coloradonewsline.com was there and was kicked out for taking a photo in the lobby of the detention center. She took a photo for informational purposes, to understand the rules, and ICE threatened to call APD on her.
Given the 1st Amendment ramifications of this case, the USA's office was supportive. And the immigration judge was too, but she was remote and not clued into the whole drama.
And so @sethklamann.bsky.social and @jenbrowncolo.bsky.social and Anna Alejo with CBS News waited in the lobby for 2 hours while Lichter fought with the US attorney and ICE to get us in the courtroom.
What's ironic of course is that Vizguerra herself is challenging her detention on First Amendment claims. She was an outspoken activist against America's immigration system. And was detained in March on immigration violations
Me and 3 other reporters arrived early (some of them earlier than me) and ICE decided not to let us in the courtroom. So Vizguerra's attorney Laura Lichter told the officials that she wanted us in

Durango family was detained without a warrant β lawyers say itβs another example of ICE not following the law www.cpr.org/2025/10/31/d...
Lawyers representing the 4 plaintiffs are now pushing on that, bringing up individual cases -- including this week's detention of a family in Durango -- and asking how they were assessed. I'll update this space with news. Thanks for following along. π
On the stand now is Gregory Davies, who is the #3 at ICE in Colorado. Federal government lawyers established that ICE officers go through a lot of training on this, assessing people for flight risk and that all of the determinations they've made this year have been proper.
HiποΈ -- we're still here in the cavernous, windowless courtroom in the federal building hearing arguments about whether Colorado ICE officers are illegally taking immigrants into custody and detention without assessing their flight risk.
My latest: First day of arguments in a case challenging ICE officers in Colorado and their lack of warrants in detaining non-criminal immigrants. We'll pick up at 9 am tomorrow.
