It is really fun to have a partner who is really into three unexpected and disconnected things. Because then you can send them any post with Bruce Springsteen in it and say “you” and get back “oh my god. Me”

They both serve the story they’re telling so well that it takes me a few chapters to even notice they’re doing it, and then I’m doubling back to make sure it hasn’t JUST started. I’m absolutely entranced.
Also, both my examples break the rule in subtly different ways: Matrix uses the lack to establish a flow that seems to always be rushing forward. Severance does it to blend the line between what people are saying and what the narrative is saying.
I’ve been increasingly reading books that leave behind the convention of quoted text for conversation (Severance and Matrix, to name 2 most recent) and really enjoying it. It’s making me muse on what other literary rules are there to learn and break

Romance readers: what is the one book you’d recommend without reservation? Can be(and honestly prefer it to be) ridiculously smutty so don’t factor that in.
