Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.
I'll just take this moment to point out that the US Institute of Peace, just a few weeks ago, contained one of the finest concentrations of US expertise on India and Pakistan, and crisis management in South Asia.

I’m halfway through a postdoc with @globalforum.bsky.social and SSA in Colombo 🇱🇰 under the theme of “exclusionary regimes, autocratization, and democracy.” Working on my book on traditional governance and the state, still researching women’s mobility, and watching cricket at every opportunity!
The next phase of ECO-DEM is a workshop in May in Cape Town, bringing together fellows from the Bogotá, Colombo, and Cape Town hubs and across a few disciplines. Excited to present my research on democracy in former FATA, Pakistan!
