Crunch Romance was never really ours. Autumn lovers drifted through the park, their boots brushing gold from the path. I saw a moment, light and harmless, a handful of leaves tossed your way, a small invitation to play. You answered with a tackle, pressing me into the cold earth, grinding leaves into my hair, my cheeks, my breath. I cried, quietly, hoping you’d stop. We walked home without a word, the world, suddenly brittle, as I picked the crunch from my hair. You said sorry, I said we had so much to learn.
