I think itโs more that they treat polls as if theyโre gospel/fortunes, regardless of how someone is actually performing (ie heโs been making some terrible decisions for ages but hadnโt been polling badly). So heads can roll if the polls suggest it.

That would potentially cut back the sentenced female prison population by more than a third.
Just to clarify HOW bleak this is,
there were 369 women in prison on remand waiting for trials or sentencing in December.

No doubt the coalition are using the stats, but just confirming the NZCVS is not Police data.
To be fair, the NZCVS doesnโt use Police data, MoJ independently surveys a wide bunch of Kiwis about reported and unreported violent crimes - which are defined as โincidents of sexual assault, non-sexual physical
assault, or robberyโ - so it shouldnโt matter whether the Police show up or not.
