i'm so excited freshwater isopods are starting to be seen in the aquarium hobby!
i remember trying to find a hobby breeder or any information on keeping these guys years ago and found almost nothing, but now i'm starting to see more people intentionally add them to their tanks :)

Chaunacops are one of the neater fish I've seen on the seafloor. I wonder if the skin feels rubbery or slimy? This one deflates itself. Their side profile is hilarious, so I put a video of that β¬οΈ. #SchmidtOcean dive 639 #SEPacificSeamounts #MarineLife

βGraveyard of coralsβ found after extreme heat and cyclones hit northern Great Barrier Reef
Marine scientists say one area around Cooktown and Lizard Island had lost more than a third of its live hard coral after bleaching event
Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today:
"...the Australian Institute of Marine Science said one area around Cooktown and Lizard Island had lost more than a third of its live hard coral β the biggest annual drop in 39 years of monitoring."

Big pelagic snail called a sea elephant in the water column.
In all the years I have been watching divestreams (roughly 10 yrs) I have never seen a heterpod/sea elephant. This pelagic snail was massive, about 30cm. The vestigial shell is at the bottom, modified foot sticking out like a fin from the side, & a proboscis snout. #natiluslive #marinelife #palau

Octopus, squid and cuttlefish arms evolved to βtasteβ different compounds
Octopus suckers can taste a variety of greasy, sticky molecules, while squid and cuttlefish suckers detect bitter compounds.
βBut octopus evolution led them to develop a taste for greasy things, while squid and cuttlefish evolution tweaked the brain proteins to detect bitter compounds, the researchers discoveredβ.

A lot of people have shared this poem over the past week. Itβs a sentiment I think about a lot, especially now.
I hope everyone is doing what they need to take care of themselves. One step at a time. One day at a time.
