copying BOTW 1:1 isn't interesting. Show me a game where each action you take, regardless of what it is, fundamentally alters the design of the world. Show me a game that leans into endless digital material colliding. Show me a game that turns on my webcam, takes a photo, and it becomes a map.

Lynch was also a truly American artist. As the opening shot of Blue Velvet pans down from the suburb to the bugs in the grass, he saw this country for what it is: a gilded veneer over uncomfortable truth. He didn’t need complex philosophy to describe this, he showed it with feeling.
He insists that artists cannot be tortured. They have to have distance and tranquility to view hardship from an objective lens and channel it in their work. Breaking the myth of the tortured artist cannot be stressed enough.
The most important lesson I learned from David though is from his demeanor. The man had made some of the most haunting, sad, aggressive, intense films and paintings I've ever seen, but you'd never guess from his chipper tone, positive outlook, and bizarre sense of humor.
So much of my taste in film and art comes directly from him, but even more than that, how to view and think about art. What makes something interesting. What an idea is and how to find it. His ideas around “lighting the fire” to bring people into a space of thinking and feeling changed my world
