We Lived Happily during the War And when they bombed other people's houses, we protested but not enough, we opposed them but not enough. I was in my bed, around my bed America was falling: invisible house by invisible house by invisible house- I took a chair outside and watched the sun. In the sixth month of a disastrous reign in the house of money in the street of money in the city of money in the country of money, our great country of money, we (forgive us) lived happily during the war.

today is a day I get to teach coinage and that is ALWAYS a good day! One of today's discussion points below: a decadrachm of Syracuse signed by Kimon circa 405-400, AR 36 mm, 43.34 g, with a charioteer being crowned by Nike on one side and the nymph Arethusa surrounded by dolphins on the other..

Trust me, the woman of academia are not at all surprised by the number of academic men orbiting Epstein.
It has to be "The Muppets Take Medieval Studies," because Kalamzoo is objectively the funniest place name for anywhere an academic conference takes place.
I know there is much out there right now to be much angrier at. But GoogleBooks losing search functionality is super duper bad news bears for researchers in book fields. Like, itβs hard to even express how very very bad. www.reddit.com/r/google/s/O...
Like in my very non technical way.... maybe it's clearing cookies or something? π (speaking from absolute ignorance)
Works for me but they've obviously updated it to a new site. That may be the issue at your end....

Check out this nuts bit of Classical reception: The Dying Gladiator pub in Brigg, North Lincs. Opened in the 1860s it is, allegedly and unsurprisingly, the only pub named this in the world. With it's weathered copy of the Dying Gaul sculpture. Wild.

What is the story is with the big foot on this provincial coin of Trajan Decius? Did the Isindians have a foot idol in their local temple? Something in the Odyssey with Achilles' Elephantiasis? A reference only found in Pausanius' lost Description of Asia? Inquiring minds want to know.

A small bronze figurine holding a sign in Greek, now on display in Leicester Museum's Egypt galleries. Unfortunately not much information known and I can't read the Greek through the glass but I am intrigued! Has anyone come across anything similar or know anything of this piece?
