Big news! The 'all scientists who do climate' feed now stands at:
π 3500 MEMBERS π
...more than it ever had on Twitter!
Huge welcome to #3949, my fav colleague @brasmus.bsky.social, and #3500, @johndparker.bsky.social, who says heβs βnot good at social media.β No longer, John!

New paper led by Emily Hollingsworth in Geochemical Perspective Letters. We use Raman spectroscopy to evaluate rock organic carbon oxidation during the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum and assess its role as a positive feedback mechanism! (1/3)

Applications are open for our 2025 paleoclimate summer school, paleoCAMP, held in the eastern Sierras in late June! Please repost and share with your graduate students.

Yikes! Stay safe Rich, this world needs you
Hey there - Iβm interested in joining!
Congrats to all the new members of the NAS elected today, most especially the amazing and geobiologist extraordinaire Ann Pearson! π§ͺπ§¬βοΈ www.nasonline.org/news-and-mul...
This is fantastic
Such sad news π
A sight to behold!!
Growing up in that area I was told they originally escaped from the National Zoo
Wow. May your day be better than whatβs happening today for the good people of Grindavik βοΈπ§ͺ
Aw shucks! Many thanks for your kind words and your good work with this list
Hi Mae, please include me, thanks! scholar.google.com/citations?us...
Musee dβOrsay has a stunning exhibit of Van Goghβs work during his final months in Auvers-sur-Oise. I recommend advanced tickets.
The paleoCAMP application deadline is in one week! If you're a graduate student interested in paleoclimate, apply to join us this summer in the beautiful eastern Sierra for two weeks of proxies, models, statistics, fieldwork, and fun! paleoclimate.camp/apply
Itβs a real society, and back in my day (the Devonian?) it was an honor to join for STEM undergrads at US colleges.
I agree, although as I understand it, paleo databases involve thousands or tens of thousands of original pubsβfar too many for inclusion in the conventional way for most journals.
Lovely! And looks like nicer weather than London
Apparently not π€¦ββοΈ
Graph showing atmospheric CO2 over the last 66 million years superimposed on bands indicating levels of global warming
Just out, a 66 million year history of atmospheric CO2. Key take away: CO2 hasn't been at today's levels for at least 3 million years. These high CO2 worlds in the geological past had less ice and *much* higher sea levels ππ βοΈπ§ͺ www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Reposting great tips that helped me to write a guide for my own students. Key points: AI-text 1) is inaccurate, 2) amplifies bias, 3) relies on other peopleβs words and ideas.
But also, useful. I invited students to teach me how they use it. They pointed out things Iβd never think of! Amazing π§ͺβοΈ
Sign me up ππ§ͺ β¦and thanks!
Iβve taught about climate change for over three decades. Iβm allowing myself to be cautiously encouraged for the first time. You should too. Thanks @drkatemarvel.bsky.social for this helpful message and letβs keep it going
Also, a big thank you to the amazing @jenbiddle.bsky.social for inviting me to the sky party!
We have an amazing lineup of speakers for the Geobiology Gordon Research Conference, Jan 14-19, 2024. Please join us, and round out the scientific program by contributing your best hot-off-the-presses work in geobiology (broadly defined). www.grc.org/geobiology-c...
