I think that'll do it. Tool placement will sort itself out over time naturally but it's a decent use of space.
I'll see about covering the insulation on the ceiling with hardboard next.
Cutting it to fit between the joists will be entertaining. π
I think I have the shelves roughed out and as a side note, two tubs are an exact fit in height, breadth and depth on the shelf underneath and it was completely accidental.
I don't think I'll ever top that. π
I thought I'd slap some paint on the wall behind the bench and added a rail for hooks up top.
I have lots of offcuts I can use like Lego to figure out shelving height and placement.
Nothing is straight, level or at 90 degrees but I don't measure stuff anyway so it's all good. βΊοΈ
Thanks, that's a decent layout. I only have 2.5m x 5m to work with but I think I've got things where they can fit. π
I'm going to tackle the workshop a quarter at a time and will start with the Bench of Vigorous Persuasion.
It's my original bench from the old place but I've given it a once over with a belt sander and will start thinking about shelves/tool storage. π€
Confirmed. π
I have a handy vent at the back left and will use that for extraction of the laser cutter fumes and I'll switch it with 3d printed blast gates for soldering. π
Oh, it's an essential. The test area should do for that, I also have plans for the back half of my office and want to make a gaming nook of sorts. π
Good to see the Streisand effect on this - It reminds me of one of my favourite phrases - "I'm not insulting you, I'm describing you."
If they don't make slop, it won't be called slop.
I have a rough plan for the garage and where everything should be.
The bench of vigorous persuasion will be for things that need fire, hammers, vices or any combination of the three. π
Pahahaha, according to my missus, it rhymes with Bat... π
Lol! π
Engine hoist bagpipe. π
Remembered an old 'wrist flick' trick I used to do with CDs. It turns out that it also works with aluminium business card blanks. βΊοΈ
The bandsaw is being willful so I cut the bolts with a hacksaw and flipped them round to get more purchase on the wood.
Once I move the lathe, I can decommission my engine hoist, and that should give me enough room to comfortably work on the saw.
I kinda want to ride it down a hill... π
I need to trim down the bolts on my lathe stand so will need to set up the bandsaw.
I'm sure there's a better way of uncorking a new blade... π
Thanks, it's getting there slowly but surely. π
Made a mobile stand for my metal lathe.
I went at it like fixings and glue were going out of fashion. It should allow me to tuck it under a bench out of the way when not in use. βΊοΈ
I've had a thoroughly pleasant time building three benches and now have approximately 7 square metres of bench space! π₯³
I can start looking at placement and standing up tools next. βΊοΈ
Solar death ray? π
Nice!! If it helps, it's installed and working on OnePlus 12 which traditionally has lots of weird and wonderful issues with some apps. π
Thought I'd try something to clean up my YouTube recommendations and I'm currently using BlockTube to remove any recommendations that have a question mark in.
It's working REALLY well! None of the usual spammy 'Can I Fix this xxx?' 'Did I just destroy this xxx?.
Much less clickbaity now! π
Thanks! It really was a surprise and she managed to get a good deal. It'll be a while before I can give it some proper attention but just looking at it makes my heart happy. π
I'm splitting the workshop, machining and heavy stuff up the front and soldering and 3D printing at the back. I stand when doing metalwork, vices etc and have and office chair for soldering.
π Same as my other one, just under 95cm. I'm a shortarse so it's the ideal working height. It should also have plenty of room underneath to stash stuff.
Legs (X6 for now) are mostly done except I ran out of screws. π€¨
I cheated by 3d printing some templates/jigs to pre drill some pilot holes and keep everything lined up. By the time the worktop is on and wedged in place it ought to be fairly sturdy. βΊοΈ
Thanks! π I'm going to lob wheels on as many things as I can do I can store them under the benches and wheel them out when needed. The lathe will be tricky to enwheel but it's a heck of a space hog and used rarely so it makes sense to stack it away.
I've got myself a cheap chop saw and I'm going to try and embenchify the entire back half of the workshop.
My carpentry skills aren't great but I have a simple design in mind that I should be able to build in place and not have to shuffle everything around.
I 'think' I have enough timber... π€
Workshop doors are insulated and I'm quite pleased with the result.
It should be borderline cosy in there by the time I'm done. π
