I can barely afford anything at all but having a 3 day weekend to celebrate my birthday is a nice reprieve from the madness of existence. Gonna get into that Esoteric Ebb.

A whiteboard leaned against a shelf with many trinkets. On the whiteboard, it says “When you look at a blank page, think of who you love”
In his acceptance speech for award for best screenplay, Ryan Coogler said “when you look at a blank page, think of who you love” and I dunno, that really moved me so I wrote it down and sat it on my desk to look at while I work
the caffeine, ah, so sleepy.
Waiting for coffee to finish resting is pain.
You might say that the purpose of a VS isn't to lay the groundwork for production, but to get funding. I'm not going to fault anyone for razzle dazzling money people to get by, but you're going to pay that debt one way or another in the long run.
I really feel like people use the concept to just mean "extremely expensive prototype" now and all that does is confuse the team and send the wrong signals to the people footing the bill.
Being able to build a whole slice shows you where all the time sinks will go in your project's dev cycle.
Anton Chigurh with altered subtitles: If the VS you developed brought you to this... ... of what use was the VS?
Re: vertical slices in game dev: I feel like if you make a VS and you don't wind up shipping the content you made in that VS, you didn't actually make a successful VS.
Oh, this is indicative of how you want the game to look and play? Then why didn't you ship it?

- started a war in the middle east
- completely destroyed the economy
Metacritic has sent a reminder email to all games site editors/publishers which is pretty strong, and great:
Pay for however many newsletters you want, please, give all those writers money
But you can't replace a whole journalism ecosystem with a series of freelancers, you just can't. There also needs to be support for serious papers, magazines, online newsrooms, and nonprofit reporting
Even when it is imperfect, there is love in this work.
Making something for someone and watching their face light up with joy and surprise when they take part in that experience is far more breathtaking than any sunset I will ever see on this space rock.
This honestly represents a level of forward planning and asset management / preservation unheard of in 95% of game studios (including mine)
it's all just art. "porn" is just art that makes you horny, in precisely the way that "horror" is art that makes you scared and "metroidvania" is art that makes you write video essays
I have worked in AA, AAA, indie and mobile it’s all the same just people trying to do a job. Plenty of good teams and individuals in all them fields. I don’t get the lines drawn trying to separate it all as it’s all game dev.

NEW: A hobbyist has created Nearby Glasses, an app that warns you if someone close by is wearing smart glasses. 404 Media spoke to the creator who said he was inspired by our coverage that uncovers how men are wearing Meta's Ray-Bans to covertly film massage parlor workers.
I understand why chatbot cheating happens but every time I read about it I want to gently remind everyone that the point of schoolwork is not for the submission to exist. Teachers are not just greedy for more essays or solved equations. The point is to do the work WITH YOUR OWN BRAIN, FOR LEARNING.
Hey.
Tell people when they do good job.
When you like the stuff they make.
When you like the characters they’ve created.
The stories they’ve told.
Nobody hears it as often as you think bc everyone thinks everyone hears it all the time.
Trust. They don’t.
Tell. Them.

A screenshot of a tweet that says: Your art will betray you. It will look better in your head than on paper. It will make you feel untalented some days. Love it anyway. Because one day, it will also surprise you, fulfill you, and remind you why you started.
Throwback to something worth repeating.
