Anyway, I hope you get out there and protest today!
When American taxpayers fund a golf trip for Trump and Musk, we call that a Man Date from the people π
What a depressing state public education is in these days. We must continue to unequivocally name the harm being done to our students and families, faculty and staff. This is not okay. This is not normal. Call your representatives and tell them we need a functional Department of Education!
"President Donald Trump has declared English the official language of the United States.
But his admin. has fired nearly every Education Department staffer who ensured states and schools properly spent the hundreds of millions of dollars earmarked to help over 5 million students learning English."
This article says it much more eloquently than I can-

But the more we make those people ashamed of their own languages and cultures, the more we force them to assimilate and forget their first languages (a real phenomenon which occurs when a student fails to feed their home language), the less successful they will be at learning English.
I am all for everyone learning any languages they want or need to, and for many people living in the United States there is a definite need to learn English.
I feel this way for many reasons, perhaps most importantly, ::English learners need their home language in order to get better at English::!
I teach English as a New Language, so on the surface of might appear that I agree with the idea that the United States should designate English as our official language. Let me be clear: I do not agree, neither as a citizen nor as an English language educator.
As a public school teacher, I urge you to call your Senators and ask them NOT to confirm Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education!

Slashing budgets and grants indiscriminately is NOT the way to fix the many problems in our education system. Call your representatives and remind them that Congress has the Power of the Purse, not unelected billionaires!

3) Do not support efforts to move toward "school choice," which would defund public schools. While charter schools are not all bad, they are by nature designed to serve the few, not the many. This change would cause students with disabilities, English Learners, and others to fall through the cracks.
2) Condemn any attempts to close the Department of Education, or to allow DOGE to dismantle it. People's livelihoods, federal grants, student loans, and DEI programs are at stake, among other things.
1) Do not confirm Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education. She is not an educator, nor has she ever been one. she has no experience in the field. What's more, she is under investigation for allegedly enabling child sexual abuse and exploitation.
As a public school teacher, I urge everyone to call your reps and ask them to stop the Trump administration's attacks on the Department of Education! We must make our voices heard NOW, before the vote to confirm McMahon on Thursday 2/13 and before Musk's DOGE minions attack the department further.
An iceberg in the ocean. The proverbial tip of the iceberg above the water is the face of the dog from the popular doge meme. The portion of the iceberg beneath the water is a swastika.
He'll only be a dictator on day one, guys π
In case itβs not totally clear, deleting websites and databases is the modern equivalent of burning books.
@schumer.senate.gov I find it ironic that you are out there telling people to contact our representatives when your own offices no longer accept voicemail π€
