Being an artist at a family gathering when there are young kids about is really something because you can just draw Spider-Man at any time, and wow they really like that

Woolen cowl, or cape. Drapery and accessories, I think! Or possible shell insulation via…magic paste? Some kind of shell-shell?

Devoured @simonestjames.bsky.social β€˜s The Broken Girls today (yes, the whole thing) and then immediately took out my sketchbook to draw the lead characters as I saw them in my mind’s eye

It happens to me every time I post a painting I swear, it’s so exhausting. It’s such a puritanical approach by Bsky and it always feels like I’m being slapped when I’m just trying to share art.

quote from Haruki Murakami: β€œI keep to this routine every day without variation. The repetition itself becomes the important thing; it’s a form of mesmerism. I mesmerize myself to reach a deeper state of mind.

β€œBut to hold to such repetition for so longβ€”six months to a yearβ€”requires a good amount of mental and physical strength. In that sense, writing a long novel is like survival training. Physical strength is as necessary as artistic sensitivity.”

Not pictured: Haruki Murakami’s wife, or indeed whoever is cooking, cleaning, paying bills, running errands, doing the laundry, answering emails, etc

like yea his routine is goals, but let’s not lie to ourselves about all the invisible work others are doing to enable him to have that routine

One of my core beliefs about villainy - real evildoers among us - is that it almost never looks as comically wicked as we would expect; it's a kind of reasonable-looking guy standing in front of a podium saying very soberly how he had no choice but to do the evil things.

This painting study by the way felt way more possible after taking Julie Beck’s color boot camp at ARA Boston last year. It’s the most structured color class I’ve ever had, I feel like I’m moving towards understanding color technically now as well as just instinctually

thinking about this piece because I was trying to figure out why I'm struggling with footnotes in a different book and it's because this fucking spoiled me on how effectively footnotes can work in specfic for grounding and contextualizing worldbuilding choices

it's really fucking elegant here :]

Picture of magic cards. The card of interest is called β€œSpawnwrithe,” which can make copies of itself every time it deals damage to its opponent. The artist has drawn shitpost versions of the card on scraps of paper for each copy of itself it has made.

Also this was a brutal first creature to play before my poor partner had summoned anything.

*monetary donations specifically, also. Some of them even have shopping lists, but make sure to check what is needed most!

When things are bad and you want to help, good to keep in mind that food banks basically always need donations.
