Hongarije had allang het vetorecht afgenomen kunnen worden vanwege schending van vele Europese regels en waarden. Het Parlement steunde mijn oproep daartoe, maar de Raad wilde Orbán halfslachtig te vriend houden.
Dus voert Orbán op cruciale momenten Poetin’s agenda uit.

Horrifying, especially since the Greek authorities criminalize lifesaving aid to migrants. The EU must protect NGOs. Solidarity is not a crime.
We will now wait for the Court's decision. If the Court agrees, the Sovereignty Protection Office should be disbanded immediately and EU funds should be refrozen.

The main advisor of the European Court of Justice finds that Hungary's so-called reforms on judiciary independence were not enough to unfreeze the EU funds.
The Commission did not check the real-life impact of these decisions, and money should only be unfrozen if all requirements are met.

Orbán maakt hiermee kraakhelder dat LHBTI personen geen recht op demonstratie meer hebben in Hongarije. De organisator van de Pécs Pride hangt eenzelfde procedure boven het hoofd. En nog steeds doet de Commissie niets! Europa moet zorgen dat Hongarije de Pride Ban wet direct intrekt.
Nog nooit wachtten mensen zo lang op hun asielbeslissing: gemiddeld meer dan 2 jaar! Dat heeft grote gevolgen: maandenlang leven in een noodopvang, in onzekerheid en angst. Nederland moet zich simpelweg aan de regels houden: zorg voor snelle, zorgvuldige procedures en geef vluchtelingen helderheid.

EU politicians increasingly attack Trump, and rightly so. But when it comes to refugees and migrants, many are copying his behaviour. Scapegoating rhetoric and the constant framing of refugees and migrants as a "security threat" fuels fear, mistrust and division. It’s high time for rehumanisation!
Ja, inderdaad, een advies. Het treedt in werking zodra 1 Mercosur-land het verdrag heeft geratificeerd en dat heeft genotificeerd aan de Commissie.
Misleidend bericht, want het Mercosur-verdrag zal wel meteen inwerking treden dmv voorlopige toepassing. Het Parlement laat ondertussen door het Hof omstreden onderdelen toetsen.
Daar kunnen verdrag, de EU en Mercosur-landen alleen maar beter van worden.
Ik wil dat het Hof van Justitie zeer omstreden onderdelen toetst. Vooral het recht van derde landen op compensatie als de EU haar standaarden (op klimaat, arbeidsrecht etc.) verhoogt. Het verdrag treedt nu sowieso al in werking, dus het is geen vertraging. Hopelijk wel een verbetering op termijn.
Volksverlakkerij: de situatie voor asielzoekers in Griekenland is slechter dan ooit. Een minister kan niet bepalen dat het rechterlijk verbod op overdracht aan Griekenland niet meer geldt.
Hij laat het weer aan de rechter over om de mensenrechten in acht te nemen. Foei!

Het bestraffen van mensen zonder verblijfspapieren is verwerpelijk, maar bestraffen van hulp aan hen is ronduit fataal. CDA hield dat tegen in Den Haag, maar bepleit dat juist actief in Brussel.
