It is a dope ass project and I was excited to hear her grow as a solo artist when it released a few months ago. Working with her sister for years definitely impacted her writing style for the first solo project, but this one truly feel like her stepping into the light as an individual with direction

Idk, I think BECAUSE her last album wasn’t received well, she really did have to go back to the drawing board to see what people wanted from her as an artist and what would build momentum going forward. I feel like every project isn’t Grammy worthy, and artists know that it takes time to get there

Even the bigger names in music don’t release with ZERO promo anymore. Kendrick’s album didn’t have a foreknown release date, but the clip from squabble up had been circling for months — things had been bubbling beneath the surface after all the drops from the beef

Sometimes I feel like this is intentional — it seems like a lot of artists will throw projects out there to see what parts of their individual style people like the most. Whatever starts garnering more attention with zero promo and hype may be something to recreate
