One of the things Iβm grateful for on Bluesky is to be seeing your photography & artistry again after leaving the bad place. You are damn good at what you do, my friend. Thank you for sharing these shots

Following you from just south of the border. You are a True North Star of common sense, decency & courage. Thank you! (And please feel free to bring me over as a new Canadian, in case you need an environmentalist, conservationist & naturalist in Maple Leaf Country)
The inmates are running the asylum & we will all suffer for their stupidity
As long as itβs only one flavor of religion, right? The white. Evangelical, hypocritical variety, perhaps? No chance theyβll allow anyone of another faith to do thi
The IRS announced that churches and other houses of worship are now allowed to endorse political candidates to their congregations, effectively carving out an exemption to the longstanding ban on political activity by tax-exempt nonprofits.
Itβs 2025 & Iβm still trying to figure out how fireworks are still a thing. If you witness something go BOOM & make sparkly colors once, how does it keep fascinating you? Theyβre awful for people with PTSD, proven bad for wildlife &, quite frankly, they aggravate the hell out of everyone around you
You, my friend, have a perfect way with words. And you nailed this one! Thank you!
Yeah⦠we know who the branding is meant to entice & welcome:
billionaires & people who think any of the ignorant yellowstone shows are documentaries. And thatβs exactly who has run roughshod over the state
This doesnβt fix anything at all with the economy & it doesnβt create jobs. In fact, it calls for the USFS to continue to cut jobs. It will, however, pollute the waters & the air, kill wildlife & drastically reduce endangered species & biodiversity.

Conservation, wildlife management, the fate of public lands, clean air & water, responsible silviculture are being decided by the ultra wealthy & cheered on by barstool biologists & dirt road alumni. And experts are ignored because someoneβs granddaddy fed them old wives tales about wolves
All policies henceforth, whether economic or political, are to be based on temper tantrums. I never thought Iβd say that I felt better with Reaganβs policies based on astrology & tarot cards
How about:

βCalm down, peasants. We werenβt expecting any pushback for our decisions to gut public lands based on greed & shortsightedness. The truth is Iβm going to throw out talking points as misdirection. And I want you to forget all the previous lies Iβve told. Hereβs the truth as I want you to see it.β
Mind blowing to see people cheering this. I said it in a previous comment, but none of this is based on science, silviculture or logic. It a money grab & a backhand to environmental regulations. I reference this quote everyday now: βNothing dollarable is safe, however guarded.β - John Muir
Not a single bit of this is based on science, silviculture, or any sort of logic. Itβs just a money grab & exerting disdain for any environmental regulation at all. βNothing dollarable is safe, however guarded.β - John Muir
Happy birthday @ryanpcooney.bsky.social !
John Muir once said, βNothing dollarable is safe, however guarded.β
So it is with our public lands. And this was as predictable as the rising sun.
Trump orders swathes of US forests to be cut down for timber www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
Waiting for the morning we wake up to the news that the forests & parks have been privatized & the announcement that itβs in βthe best interest of Montana & the health of the forestβ that they begin wholesale clear cutting. Any bets the loggers will be old friends with zinke, daines, & greg?
I hope youβre right. I deeply, genuinely, seriously do. And I hope itβs sooner, rather than later.
Also, we could really use an EDIT button. (At least, I know I could!)
I couldnβt agree more! I missed keeping up & talking to my fellow Montanans for quite a long time. Yβall are damn good people & illntrstify to that in a court of law
You know, when I bailed on the other place after it was bought & set on fire, this is the one of the things I missed⦠the hilarious back & forth between you 2. (And Ryan & a few other of our Big Sky friends) SO glad to see this again!
Thank you, my friend! Itβs pretty humbling to get asked to work with land trusts around the country. Conservation efforts must be far more local as we look ahead; as funding from the government & corporations is expected to drop considerably. Scary time to be a naturalist & conservationist
Iβm always glad to share my thoughts on the importance of conservation. I was interviewed by a land trust to discuss the role theyβll play in the future of conservation, uncertain as that future may beβ¦

I have missed you, my friend. I vacated the old place shortly after it was bought by that guy. Damn good to see your posts again.
A bird with a bright yellow chest & black bib sings high on a bare limb with a clear blue sky behind it
You can almost hear some photos. State bird of 6 states, including Montana, this Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) was caught mid-song on a crystal clear morning.

Count me in. I need to start posting more photos of birds & bird banding. This will encourage me to do that. Thank you for including me!
A large gray & white owl looks up & to the left, perfectly showing half of its facial disc face.
Ever vigilant. With an eye to the sky & an ear to the forest. Great Gray Owls are always so fascinating to observe. Iβm grateful each time I see them
