My favorite genre of Epstein emails are powerful people emailing WITH JEFFREY EPSTEIN about how MeToo has gone too far and the woke mob must be stopped.
The quoted post invites people to think of cases where they donβt know the moral status of the people theyβre engaging with. But by 2013 Epstein had already been convicted, let alone all the time thatβs passed since then for disclosure.
We cannot be more clear. Leave us the fuck alone.
This is really grim. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/28/o...
I think this is a good point. There are tradeoffs between diversity of views and shared assumptions, and no universal answer as to which trade is worth making.
Appreciate this letter from MN State Sen Jim Abler (R-Anoka) to POTUS
Theyβre calling him the worldβs most sober man:
We delivered the Regester lecture at Puget Sound last week and The News Tribune discussed it and our work on AI romantic companions and philosophical accounts of consciousness (w/ @jttiehen.bsky.social )
I will support any New York mayoral candidate who admits bodegas are just convenience stores and everywhere in the world has them
AI ETHICS QUESTION: Is this good?

This is also bad in that it's not a one off op-ed writer. These articles are coming from the editorial board.
People really need to cut their subscriptions to WaPo and move on to supporting other outlets
As Gov. Pritzker says in his opening statement, ICE and CPB are attempting to provoke a reaction by their actions in Chicago. And as he says -- more or less -- at the time stamp below, he won't order state police to physically confront them, b/c he can't.
If you could win a prize by guessing the number on a die π² hidden under a cup, would you want to guess before the die was rolled, or after?
The odds of winning are the same in both, but they can feel different. π§΅
I think the βsomewhat usefulβ category is u helpful. If they asked me personally, I would say itβs βsomewhat helpful,β because there are some benefits, but also that on balance itβs more harmful then helpful, because the costs of the inaccuracies and hallucinations outweigh the benefits.
genuinely its really funny that the "online american catholic" position is that the pope is wrong about the bible and the "online american secular" position is that the pope is always right about the bible
Once again, it is *faculty*βnot administratorsβwho brought this case and won. Including UC Faculty Association chapters of the AAUP.
According to Oregon, Trump got the idea that Portland is on fire because Fox News illustrated a September 5 story on protests of ICE with video from the George Floyd riots in 2020.

My most controversial post-ejection take is that treating voters as adults with agency and telling them the truth isnβt looking down on them, while telling voters things you know to be false to validate their feelings in an attempt to manipulate them is considerably more condescending.
Maybe it was still worth it, and Dems should load up to make a similar move again even if longterm consequences ensue. Or maybe it wasnβt worth it, and so there should be lessons learned. Feels like the material for an important, interesting conversation.
An irony is that a very obvious cause of why Dems are in trouble in the senate is the passage of Obamacare, which directly resulted in various Dem red state senators getting voted out. Given how central Klein was in supporting Obamacare, this could generate an interesting discussion.
Sorry, Iβm being dense. Can you explain what you mean?
Along very similar lines, but from a Beauvoir-inspired existentialist view. philpapers.org/rec/TUBAAL

My Bluesky profile image is taken from a student artwork of me painted grue (the student was doing an art project on philosophical thought experiments and I had mentioned that grue was my favorite).
Latest projection suggests that more than 505,000 adults and kids have died due to USAID's illegal dismantling by Musk, Rubio, and Lewin

actually that checks out
In the American League, there are 6 playoff spots but 7 different teams that have more than a 50% chance of making the playoffs. Mathematically possible but counterintuitive.
Yeah, I very much stand behind that. I would jokingly say of the campus critics, βthey hate us for our freedom.β Campus free speech failures, when real, are cases of colleges falling short of free speech ideals that basically no ordinary workplace makes an effort to meet.
