The biggest drawback of driverless cars
ο»ΏDriverless cars could save thousands of lives. They might also break our cities.
"One of the best things we could do to reduce car fatalities, benefit the environment . . . and make our communities more liveable is to become less car-dependent. But driverless cars, if left unmitigated, could easily lock us into a future that is even more dominated by cars."

Time to Talk About Speed Bumps, Denver
The Mayor speaks of a vibrant and safe city. Let's start with a Denver where our kids are not afraid to cross the street.
"When a record 93 people died in traffic during the Mayorβs second year in office, we must correct course. Consider this a simple first step: speed bumps on our most dangerous streets."

RTD ridership is down 40%, its budget has holes, and lawmakers are fed up
βCuts to service are unacceptable. We want more transit in the future,β said James Flattum, co-founder of the Greater Denver Transit advocacy group.
"Denver is not currently a transit-first city. The vast majority of our street space is devoted to the movement of personal vehicles . . . RTD needs more funding to be able to run those buses and trains frequently all day, every day. But it's the cities and the state that control the street space."

7 Reasons Bike Lanes and Sidewalks Are Good for Drivers - Toole Design
Here's our list of 7 reasons why federal funding for bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders improves the transportation experience for drivers, too.
"It may seem counterintuitive, but reallocating road space to other modes can actually make car travel more efficient . . . Clear, predictable allocation of space reduces friction, provides a genuine choice of modes, and keeps traffic moving."
Why bike lanes & sidewalks are good for drivers:

CDOTβs pollution claims for I-270 expansion are a fantasy, green groups say
As public hearings begin, CDOT and Colorado green groups dispute whether an expansion of I-270 would increase pollution.
The claim that a wider 270 would not generate any new trips is βoutrageous, and flies in the face of decades of experience and research showing that widening urban freeways like I-270 results in more traffic, more congestion, and more pollution.β
