No kings
There had to be 1000 people at my suburban Maryland No Kings protest, 3 times as many people in June. Maybe our democracy still has a chance to survive.
You know, having ovarian cancer would be easier (though not easy) if there weren't petty problems with paperwork, like a CT scan order being sent and received and processed properly. #cancer #cansky
From Star Trek The Drumhead
I don't post often these days, but it's Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. (I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Ovarian Cancer 3 years ago & it recurred a year ago. Thanks to chemo & Lynparza, my nodules are now "too small to measure" so I'm doing well.) If you have these symptoms, see your doctor. #cansky

I'm good. Hope you are well and that the writing goes equally well.
My CA125 (a ovarian cancer marker) has risen 50% - whether due to disease progression or intestinal inflammation from Lynparza side effects is the big question. Until blood work and a CT scan in 2 weeks, like Schrodingers cat, I both do and do not have disease progression. Waiting sucks. #cancer

As someone with an ovarian cancer recurrence, I want to thank you for speaking the truth about Trump's devastating cuts to science and research. Goodbye cure, hello death.
And so starts the civil war. Or at least a war on our civil rights. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06...
National Cancer Survivors Day, June 1, 2025
Roughly 1 in 20 Americans living today is a cancer survivor, and roughly 40% of us will get a cancer diagnosis at some point.
Today, June 1, is National Cancer Survivors Day #NCSD2025, a reminder of how essential it is that we continue and extend the work of #CancerResearch!
Not good. Not good at all
"Cancer is cured, the economy grows at 10% a year, the budget is balanced β and 20% of people don't have jobs."
Interesting. @axios.com www.axios.com/2025/05/28/a...
As someone with advanced ovarian cancer, it is slightly horrifying to have one's lethal disease quantified as a market. Then again, a larger market probably equals more chances of a cure.

Womanβs life-saving treatment delayed by Trump cuts to NIH: βCancer shouldnβt be politicalβ
A 43-year-old woman and mother of two with advanced cancer is experiencing life-or-death delays in treatment because of the Trump administrationβs cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The New Wilderness
The New Wilderness is an interesting take on a bleak future where living off the land is one of the few viable options left in a polluted, dire America.

REPUBLICANS are gonna CUT $500 billion from MEDICARE
Yup, Republicans' "Big Bill" has a hidden poison pill in it that triggers half a trillion dollars in CUTS TO MEDICARE
Call your Representative and Senators and demand they remove the Medicare poison pill (202) 224-3121

Well, that sucks. I would have loved a next-generation treatment for my ovarian cancer.
The Democratic staff's analysis also reported a 31% decline in cancer research grant funding in the first three months of 2025, compared to the same timeframe in the previous year.

The Frozen River
In The Frozen River, a strong, tenacious woman provides fascinating insights into life in early American history. Highly recommend.

Hereβs what a GOP plan could mean for different Americans next year:
People making under $17,000 a year: lose an average of around $1,000.
People making between ~$17,000 and $51,000: lose an average of around $700.
People in the top 0.1%: gain an average of over $389,000.
Decided (with my doctor) to decrease my dose of Lynparza due to side effects that were compromising my ability to fully enjoy my life.
Of course, now I worry the dosage reduction might mean the drug's not as effective at preventing a second recurrence of my #ovariancancer. UGH!

Truth
Democrats need to be much better marketers. We're not the tax and spend party, Republicans are. They don't care about deficit, but Dems actually do something about it.
Democrats need to get so much better at marketing.
Beautyland
