Friend with bipolar had PIP cut massively on renewal, they have appealed and to their surprise the DWP has not only reversed the one area they pushed on, but others too.

Apparently DWP failed to read friend's GP letter which was sent in as evidence...

DWP need to get their basics right first!

Forgetting that the DWP also demands EPIC amounts of medical evidence.

Other than faking a medical letter or 7 (which would be fraud for any condition), how is a rando without kidney failure going to evidence their kidney disease to the DWP?

1953 Iranian coup d'Γ©tat - Wikipedia

"Judging Mosaddegh to be unamenable and fearing the growing influence of the communist Tudeh, UK prime minister Winston Churchill decided in early 1953 to solicit the Eisenhower administration and overthrow Iran's government."

Happy International Women's Day!

I wrote my book, The View From Down Here, about the specific experience of being a disabled woman because so often our existence is seen as a contradiction

Just a note, because I'm a stickler for the old accuracy, Gillick Competence doesn't apply to 16 and 17 year olds. It's the Family Law (Reform) Act 1969. 16/17 year olds are presumed competent to consent to medical treatment.

I hadn't realised that specifically.

I still think Streeting's paymasters will be going after teens wanting hormonal contraception tho. I'll boost your OP too. :)

Redoing reply as I accidentally misgendered the racist twit.

I'm sorry this person has done this to you tho, calling you whining in a QT like that is basically asking for people to go and harass you. My UK PoC friends taught me (belatedly) to QT PoC with care pos or neg cos racist backlash risk.

The way some of y’all have spoken to and about Black women who are offering a fact check about political conditions in a very white state with active Nazi and white supremacist militias is very telling

Black women are easier to swing at so you’re producing us as social media punching bags

How long also till Streeting's paymasters start demanding a roll-back of Gillick/Fraser competence and banning under 18s from hormonal birth control.

Cos what starts with trans and LGB folk, quickly expands to women in general and control of our bodies including the right not to be pregnant etc.

08.03.2026 20:12 πŸ‘ 28 πŸ” 3 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I've not seen Streeting's healthcare dept ban any other type of drug for any other group of people despite scaremongering articles in BBC etc about 'aesthetic' treatments like fillers and butt-lifts and whatever where people have been recorded to have died.

So this is clearly ideological.

Indeed. I seem to recall that public opinion was NOT for abolition of the death penalty in 1965 when it finally got law-changed to be removed, but the politicians argued it was such a horrific thing that it needed doing anyway.

People who endorse cruelty to prisoners do not understand inequality.

One of the few accurate posts I've seen on Ian Huntly's death which shows how bad our prisons have become.

Meta glasses are human workers in Kenya.
Waymo is human workers in the Philippines and Door Dashers. Amazon Fresh scanner is human workers in India.

They're stealing all our intellectual property and clean drinking water and still failing.

Im a historian of vaccination.
Every semester/year since 2015, I teach the histories of smallpox vaccination.
And every semester/year, I have had anti-vaxxers/vaccine hesitant people in my classes.
If I want to change their minds, telling them how evil or stupid they are isn't going to cut it.

I didn't know about the violent history of smallpox eradication.

I remember some of my UoB students saying they were mocked for not being 'posh enough'. BCU students are much more likely to be from the local area or Midlands 70% commute, and many in student digs are from Coventry, Northampton, Leicester, Wolverhampton and that kind of distance away.

06.03.2026 00:22 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

A lot of people at UoB openly assumed I must have had private education cos my northern accent isn't obviously regional.

Since moving to BCU down the road, I notice how many more staff (academics especially), have Brummie or other notable regional UK accents & don't make assumptions about me.

TLDR Falconer and other Assisted Dying bill supporters imply there's ~7 people filibustering. In practice there's over 40 people submitting amendments, tens of speakers - none allowed more than 10 mins, many taking less than 5.

This bill is badly drafted and unsafe which MANY folk are pointing out

I find Butler's ideas often clever but almost impossible to understand in their original very academic-longword prose...

They're not the only one. In my disability studies course I struggled to read Vic Finkelstein for similar complicated grammar with long sentences with inferences multi-clauses.

That is a sickeningly familiar punchable-looking face. Absolute snob-monster. Especially as his university doesn't take this 'cohort' he so disdains; the other 3-4 universities in Birmingham do that (and don't necessarily provide the right/enough support for them).

Tickell is a snob AND a joke.

Greens deputy leader calls for apology from Starmer over false claims that led to death threats Mothin Ali fears for his life after anti-war protest was wrongly described as being in support of Iranian regime

When the Prime Minister spreads lies about people - there are consequences.

He's made some outrageous smears. It's debasing our politics.

Anything to try to quieten dissent about the US and Israel starting an illegal war.

Linux terminal works well for Braillists I believe but less sure about other stuff. Will re post in case anyone I know, knows.

If Windows got evil, Mac OS may grow. In 2011ish last time I looked, it was awesome with Braille input and output devices, binged) went beep and worked.
