Good morning #ASMicrobe! Please feel free stop by my rapid fire talk at the AES Track Hub on Friday, 6/20 from 11:45a-12:30p and my poster AES-SATURDAY-791 on Saturday, 6/21, I'd love to chat about potential plastic degrading microbes and stickleback π
2 women stand smiling and holding certificates of achievement for winning first place in their categories and first and second place overall in the poster competition. One is wearing glasses and tan sweater and pants, and the other wears a black shirt sleeved shirt and maroon pants.
Oh my gosh, PhD candidates Carol Vieira da Silva & @spasqualetti.bsky.social won 1 & 2 place, respectfully, in the UConn Graduate Student Research Symposium! They also won 1st place for their respective categories of Cognition, Heath, and Medicine (Carol) & Economy, Energy and Environment (Sarah) ππ
Well the award for most cowardly, boot-lickingest academic society has squarely gone to the American Society of Microbiology, who has taken down features of various non-white scientists. Absolutely pathetic behavior. Those articles are now coming up as βunder reviewβ. Truly sickening cowardice here.

I use pellets that are normally used in pellet stoves. Itβs about $4-5 for a 40lb bag. Tractor supply also sells pellets as horse bedding for about $6 a bag. As long as theyβre kiln dried theyβre good!

My student @spasqualetti.bsky.social gave an excellent talk (I'm a little biased) about identifying microbes from stickleback that are able to degrade plastics. She also found that microbes in community have enhanced ability to break down plastics. Proud PI status

A smiling woman wearing a red baseball hat that says Bridge of the Gods stands on a dirt trail. A line of mountain peaks rises above her right shoulder
A moose with a small rack eats from a low-laying bush in a green lush valley
A snow covered mountain ridge rises above evergreen trees. Wispy clouds seem to almost follow the ridgeline
@spasqualetti.bsky.social and @sticklestock.bsky.social manager Holly are leaving today, so we hiked part of Powerline. They are able to leave early this year because we were able to get all our fish in record time. I'll stick around Anchorage for meetings, then head home. Beautiful day for a hike!
Thank you!
