My cat decided to assist me with thesis-writing yesterdayโฆ๐โโฌ
I saw it on Saturday, itโs awful!๐ฉ The cinematography and visuals were good, but the entire change to the story and unnecessary addition of sex scenes were just the icing on the cake! Poor Emily, my heart breaks for her! The ONLY good thing is that the sales of the novel have increased.

The purpose of English as a discipline is to analyse, compare and contrast! We are well within our rights as scholars to defend something when weโre so familiar with its source material.
Yes, you donโt have to read a book to like a movie, but at the same time, donโt have a go at people who genuinely care about the works of people who are no longer alive to defend themselves or what theyโve written!
There are some people on social media who are attacking English students/graduates for defending the novel Wuthering Heights against this new adaptationโฆ
My literary/Victorianist defence mechanisms are proper coming out in defence of Emily Brontรซ and HER Wuthering Heights right now!
So sad to hear about the passing of Jesse Jackson. A civil rights icon who made such an impact for Black people throughout his life. He will be so missed. Thank you for your advocacy, Jesse.
In the meantime, a message for those who watch the film before reading the novel, and become Brontรซ fans as a result: Please support the Brontรซ Parsonage. If you want to purchase Brontรซ books, try and order them from the Brontรซ Parsonageโs amazing shop!!!
I am still going to watch the film on Saturday, but I will not be watching with high expectations.
I fully agree that people should read the novel before watching the film, and I am disappointed that there have been significant changes to the plot. But this is Hollywood, so unfortunately, it doesnโt come as a surprise.
The ONLY thing Iโm happy about with this movie, is the increased recognition it has brought to the Brontรซ Parsonage Museum, and the incredible staff who dedicate each and every day to preserving the legacy of the Brontรซ family.
So Iโve been watching some of the Instagram reviews of the #WutheringHeightsMovieโฆ Iโm going to watch it at the cinema on Saturday, but as an English Lit PhD student, Iโm not impressed with what Iโve seen so far๐ โฆ๐งต
Iโm pleased to say that it went really well! A great discussion on two of my chapter drafts, with really constructive feedback going forward. Onwards and upwards, hopefully I will have a completed/submitted doctoral thesis by the end of this year!
I havenโt posted on here for a while! Bit of a life/PhD update: I had my PhD confirmation review last weekโฆ
Just baked an apple crumble ๐๐ฅง
Thank you so much!๐ฅบ
Is there a way to access this at all? I also wrote something for it prior to the funeral; itโd be lovely to read some of the contributions and memories.
Thank you!โบ๏ธ
It really does, he was so kind and generous to everyone who knew him. Thank you.
Simon was my primary PhD supervisor. I watched this a few months back when I heard of his unfortunate passing; it brought a tear to my eye. Thinking of his family and loved ones at this time; he was such a special personโค๏ธ
Iโd just like to wish everyone a very, Merry Christmas, and all the very best for 2026! I hope you have a wonderful time with your families and loved ones!๐โ๏ธโ๏ธ๐
So Charlie decided to bring a dead mouse into the dining room last night!๐ฉ๐ญ
Completely agree!๐๐พ
Itโs so amazing to see something positive come out of something negative. The power of social media is immense. Iโve honestly loved reading all of the academic accomplishments from women around the world๐ฅบ
Fortunately, academic women worldwide have stood up. They are reposting Richard Cooperโs original post of โJust look at the degree on that chickโ, and posting it alongside images of themselves in their graduation gowns, with their acquired degrees (I may have also joined in๐).
According to some of these trolls, women should still be prohibited from attending universities. This is disturbing. Some of the comments I have read are scary, with some saying that the only purpose women have in this world is to reproduce (itโs giving very strong Handmaidโs Tale/Gilead vibesโฆ๐ณ).
The above post was in response to Dr @juliet-turner.bsky.socialโs PhD celebratory post.
โJust look at the degree on that chick โ No man everโ โ Richard Cooper, 2025
Recently on X (formerly Twitter), there has been a growing trend of trolls (mostly incels), directing hate towards women who have achieved academic success.
