Good morning!
Good morning!
ACE formally recognises Digital Arts (inc AI) as one of the art forms it will support in 2026.
What are the implications for musicians, actors, artists and other professionals who train for years to see their work stolen and monetised by others.

Good news for music creators with the Warner Brothers / Suno settlement restricting the monetisation of AI slop. A long way to go yet but a move in the right direction.
Would be composer? learn an instrument!
Hopefully the publishing industry will become more robust in fighting AI too.
Finals of this yearβs edition of wonderful Singing competition Β΄A Hautes Voixβ today. Eighteen young people competing for great prizes in front of an international jury. We are expecting a full house for this event.
Ten years since I last shared this and humanity certainly isnβt getting less dumber!
Good morning! A bit noisy but lovely colours.
I have reduced a novel by over 30% (9000 words) in two separate editing rounds in response to an agentβs request for a better LMG fit.
I thought it would destroy the story and chapters but am pleasantly surprised at how much sharper and better paced it is.
Hope she feels the same!
Lots of friends saying theyβre tired just now. Butare they really?
Why would everyone be tired at the same time? Could it be that we all have too many inputs, too many pings, too many half-finished thoughts?
I spent today cutting redundant lines from a book to reduce the word count. it actually made the writing sharper and cleaner.
It reminded me of taking the stuff i didnt need out of my racing boat. Less weight meant increased performance.
Same life lessons - different contexts! π
Most creative advice is overrated.
You only learn to write, compose or direct by doing it badly enough times that something finally clicks.
Whatβs the worst βcreative adviceβ youβve ever been given?
Iβm cutting 20% from a novel just now for a literary agent who wants a sharper fit for a defined market.
Interesting how losing pages can make the voice feel stronger, not weaker.
Have you ever reduced a project and found it improved?
Sometimes the best edit is the one you decide not to make.
A raw edge in a script or song can sometimes hold more truth than a perfect version.
I know I chase perfection and perhaps over-edit. But was the raw edge really better?
How do you know when to stop editing?
Last week I was organizing a singing competition. Itβs good to give young people a chance to perform in front of an international jury.
Next week I am editing a novel for an agent before the finals of the competition ramp up again.
How varied is your creative life? Or do you prefer a single focus!
Writers rarely talk about the space between projects. The silence between a finished work and starting again when you sit with the blank template and thinkβ¦
Idea? Character? Scene? Structure? Save the Cat? More coffee?
Research? Just write the first word? Tomorrow?
If you are in any doubt about how powerful AI will be in the arts in the future then take a look at this. Now, would Whistler approveβ¦

Pink clouds and a pale blue sky as the sun sets behind Spanish mountains across the water
Good evening! Possibly my last sunset in Spain this year and itβs a good one!
Two of my projects have made the transition from novels in progress to screenplay. Both are now optioned with producers putting the money together and building first class teams and studios around the screenplays.
Who else has moved between novels and screenplays? How did you find the process?
When you write, do you start with a characterβs inner voice, or do you build them from their actions first?
I often find the voice comes early, as the plot is shaping. But my characters are often based on the the unsuspecting traits and personalities of friends.
Curious to see how others work.
Evidently making movies in Europe, Canada etc is a security threat! π€£π€£ Words fail meβ¦

What a wonderful evening!
Applying his mathematical learning to his appreciation of art. Love it!
Almost finished v3 of a new novel from one of my screenplays.
v1 - extract dialogue and narrative from Action. Shape chapters from movie plot structure.
v2 - develop narrative and trim back dialogue.
v3 - edit language and structure for age group.
A different experience to writing from scratch.
Well you found me. Iβm on threads too. Not easy is it π
A lot of writing and dealing with the business end of writing recently. Also very unseasonal grey weather so looking forward to doing this in a couple of months! I might also do some writing at anchorβ¦
Confused. I thought Donald was the First Ladyβ¦
I am not a Musk fan at all, tend to look at Teslas with disdain and have been ever so tempted to do a musk wave at them when they pass me, but I would stop short at vandalism.
I am surprised at the near unanimous approval burning down a dealers stock is getting here. I Hope Musk gets the message.
Oh dear, how sad, never mindβ¦
First draft of new screenplay finished. Fingers crossed my producers like it. Been intense.
Is it normal to want to do something completely different before the inevitable rewrite? π
β¦ not forgetting i have to write the songsβ¦

Iβd love to ditch my blue tick on X, (around 8000 followers) but I need more traction from the creative community here first. Get me to 1,000 followers, and Iβll drop it. Letβs build something better together!
